Tech Tips: Charting in Excel in Depth

Visual information matters more than ever.. Pie charts and columns have been replaced by beautifully designed graphics that convey a message. This sequence of three classes explores Microsoft Excel’s charting capabilities, including Pivot charts. Each class will build on the previous one, but attendees may attend individual classes. These workshops assume that participants have created basic charts. Register for an email reminder for classes at Chicago Ave/ Main St. Branch or North Branch.

Excel for Nonprofit Organizations

Thursday, February 13, 9:30-11 am, Community Meeting Room, Main Library

Learn how to make full use of Excel to manage grants through their life cycle. The focus will be on the capabilities of Excel, rather than on teaching specific skills. Please register online or by calling the Reference Desk at 847-448-8630.


Winter Reading Fun at the Branches

Winter Reading Program at the Branches: through January 25, 2014, North Branch and Chicago Ave./Main Street (CAMS) Branch 

Families are invited to participate in our Winter Reading Program. Activities include "Read a poetry book," "Make a meal together," and "Visit the Library." Logs can be picked up at either branch and returned when 12 of the 16 activities are completed. This is a fun way to spend time together as a family when you come in out of the snow. (New Branch Hours: Monday 10 am-8 pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10 am-6 pm.)

Not sure how to fill out the FAFSA form to apply for financial aid for college? Take advantage of these one-on-one FAFSA assistance sessions. Whether you haven’t even started yet, you’re ready to submit or you just have some questions, a representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) can walk you through the process step-by-step and give you the answers you need. Can't make it to a daytime story program or looking for a fun early evening activity? Then Family Storytime and Craft is the one for you and your child, ages 2-9. EPL storytimes have been called "the best" by Make It Better. Led by Martha Meyer, you and your little one will read stories, sing songs and make a craft. Different theme each week, starting with...dinosaurs. Children learn that fun and interesting things happen when they read books! No registration necessary, but call us at 847-448-8610, tell us you're coming and we'll be ready for you!

Spotlight On: Library Partnerships

The Campus Kitchen at Northwestern University and the Evanston Public Library are teaming up to bring those in need not only a delicious meal, but a delicious "read" as well. Volunteers will be adding library reading materials to their meal deliveries. Get information about volunteering at The Campus Kitchen at Northwestern University.

Would you like to volunteer during the tax season, helping families move closer to financial security? The Center for Economic Progress is coming to the Library in January. They are recruiting for volunteers to work one-on-one with low-income families. No experience is necessary. All training is provided.
