I've had four children in five years: my eldest is almost 5-years-old and my youngest is 6-months-old. During our most recent well-baby visit, our pediatrician shared some news with me: "Since the last time you had an infant, some thoughts and theories have changed about when to introduce new foods to babies," he said.

The way we parent our children changes from day to day as we experience new things and hit new milestones with our kids. We read books, attend classes and speak with other parents. All of these things influence the way we raise our families.

Here are six great places for new parents to start looking for information and resources to help along on the journey of parenthood:

From from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on April 16, all expectant moms, dads and grandparents are invited to "Rock the Cradle," a celebration for expecting and new parents at the Ritz Charles (12156 N. Meridian St, Carmel). This evening of baby fun includes shopping and lighthearted activities. Tune into Healthy Cooking Demonstrations and Parenting Expert Panels, register for the popular Daddyathon competition and indulge in cupcake, candy, ice cream and pickle buffets.

Admission is free and open to the public. The first 50 guests will take home a swag bag filled with samples and products. Moms-to-be can pre-register for an onsite 2D ultrasound (for a fee). Info: indyfamilyfest.com/rockthecradle

Community Hospital Maternity Services Childbirth Education classes are available for all the members of your family. First-time parents are encouraged to enroll in Birth & Baby, while the Expectant Dads Workshop will help dads learn how to be hands-on. The Childbirth Refresher is great for parents on their second go-round, and big brother or sister can tour the maternity area and participate in hands-on activities with parents during the Siblings open house. All adults in your family, including grandparents, are encouraged to enroll in CPR. Info: ecommunity.com

In addition to childbirth preparation and breastfeeding courses, IU Health also offers "Bow Wow and Baby" for pet owners who are pregnant, Prenatal Yoga, Mommy and Baby Yoga, a grandparenting and sibling class and the one that helped us survive (and sleep) with our first child: Happiest Baby on the Block. Fees range from free - $125. Information and registration: iuhealth.org

St. Vincent Hospital offers a plethora of classes for the whole family. With a First Pregnancy class roster, e-learning, refresher courses for experienced parents, New Dad Boot Camp, Grandparent classes and — our personal favorite — the Sibling Class for big brothers and sisters, there's so much to learn! Fees range from $10-$85 per program. The ongoing schedule and registration information can be found online: stvincent.org

St. Francis Health offers a monthly Pregnancy 101 event for expectant moms or women interested in becoming pregnant. Healthcare experts are on hand to answer questions about breastfeeding, healthy eating during pregnancy, the delivery room, choosing a pediatrician and more. Sessions are free but registration is required. Upcoming events are at 5 to 7 p.m. on May 13 at Sassafras Tea Room in Greenwood and May 20 at Ralph and Avas Cafe in Mooresville. The Indianapolis Bump to Baby Expo by Becoming Family is an annual event at the Ritz Charles (12156 N Meridian St, Carmel) for new parents and soon-to-be parents. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 16, the whole family can find all of the resources, products and services they need under one roof in this boutique-style event. Attend educational seminars dedicated to nursery design, fitness, breastfeeding and car seat safety. Attendees will have opportunities to walk away with great prizes and a swag bag.
