Chamber hires Matt Morrow as president

Posted online
Matt Morrow is making a splash with his return to Springfield by taking one of the city's most high-profile jobs.

The former 12-year leader of the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield has been hired by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce to take over the organization as its president and CEO this fall, said chamber spokeswoman Maggie Kost.

Morrow resigned from the Springfield HBA and relocated to Alabama in December 2012 to take a job as executive vice president of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders - a group about triple the size of Springfield's HBA. At the chamber, Morrow succeeds 26-year President Jim Anderson, who retired from the post in June and took a job as vice president of marketing and public affairs at CoxHealth in July.

“Rachael and I are excited to return home to Springfield, and I am thoroughly energized by the thought of serving the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce as its next president and CEO," Morrow said in a news release. "I’m grateful to the members of the search committee, to the chamber board of directors, to the chamber’s outstanding professional staff and of course to retiring President Jim Anderson.

"All have given generously of their time and talent, in countless ways, to help ensure the chamber is positioned well for success as we enter this next chapter."

During his tenure with the Springfield HBA, Morrow was known for his advocacy efforts at the local, state and federal levels. He also previously served as an aide to John Ashcroft when he was a U.S. senator, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.[[In-content Ad]]
