All classrooms are made of students with many abilities and disabilities. Integrating technology into the classroom is definitely a great way to reach diversity in learning styles. Today’s students love technology so they are sure to be interested in learning if they can use the tools they love.
My class is made up of so many different learning abilities.
I have students who are exceptional readers, amazing mathematicians, great artists, little scientists and knowledge seekers. Our school is a Gifted and Talented Magnet School where we give our students the opportunity to take electives based on their interests and talents. Unfortunately technology electives are very few and our magnet budget does not support technology. We have one computer lab in our media center, 4 desktops in the classrooms, 1 smartboard per grade level and 32 iPads for the entire school.
My Project
My students are talented in their own ways, but unfortunately many of my students struggle in reading, writing and math. Our school is using MobyMax for reading and math and having these ipads will allow me to get more students on this program to improve their reading and math skills. During our reading centers my students go on MobyMax for their Listening Center, hearing and/or reading stories on their level and answering comprehension questions.
They also use the iPads to do research for their Writing Center. During math centers my students also use Mobymax to get individualized instruction on their level based on the site's assessment. We also connect with global schools through kidblog as well, which helps them work on their writing skills.
Technology is becoming the way we communicate with others, learn new things and explore new places at our fingertips.
I would love to get these students ready for the 21st Century. Unfortunately I have some students that are not privileged enough to being exposed to technology at home. I would love the opportunity to make a difference in these students lives and with your help I can!
