From the Back Cover
Former vamp hunter Dawn Madison and her team of monster hunters and psychics haven't been the same since they retired from the life. She's especially tired and drained from injuries sustained during the team's last stand against the dragon. But when the clock strikes twelve on Samhain, everything changes. It seems that someone has sent raised-from-the-dark revenants after her, and they're out for blood--as well as Dawn's life...

- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2013The ultimate in urban fantasy! RAISING THE DARKNESS will raise the tiny hairs on the back of your neck and leave you wanting more of Dawn Madison and her crew. This novella is a short thrilling ride, rife with heat and mystery. I'm a major fan of Ms. Green's Vampire Babylon series. I'm also wildly in love with the male protagonists. Can you say sexy? Hell, yeah!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2014So it's been years since I read the last Vampire Babylon novels. Real long time, getting back into Chris Marie Green's world took a bit of doing, but I recalled enough to get the gist of things. Raising the Darkness is a novella that takes place after everything went down in London.
Dawn and her friends are happily retired...or Dawn is somewhat happy. Or not really. She still carries the dragon within her, she's still marked by having defeated the Master vampire the first go around, but she's doing as well as one can be after all the shitick.
But then a group who worship the dragon decide that they want to bring him back. Out of Dawn and what better night to do that than Samhain? Using revenants to track Dawn down zombie style, it becomes quite the problem for Dawn who just wants to live her life as normally as possible. But she has to drag her friends out of their happy retirement and bring them back into the hell they thought they left behind.
Raising the Darkness was quite the fast paced read! It all happens in a matter of hours all on the night of Samhain. It was fun and enjoyable story that I was happy to read. I enjoyed the Vampire Babylon world, despite not having clear memories of it! Dawn is quite the heroine and a lot of freaky stuff happens and happy endings aren't always guaranteed!
I highly recommend reading the Vampire Babylon series! One of the earlier Urban Fantasy reads that made my list. But they are best read in order, so that means reading the first "Hollywood" Vampire Babylon books 1-3, then the "London" Vampire Babylon books 4-6. And then reading this novella in particular or you'll be in for lots of spoilers!
Overall Rating 4/5 stars
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2013This author knows how to hook the reader. An electrifying opening. Suddenly we are thurst into the land of the half-dead as retired ex-vampires struggle to reconnect with their lives. I loved 'the tuner' the part-magic, part technology, part psychic tool.
I wanted the main character to be safe and rooted for her in her terrifying journey. A rousing climax. You won't be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2014I actually bought this book for the story about Lily. I don't know Dawn seemed a little to self destructive, and insecure for my taste. The Christmas story was.... interesting.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2018The beginning of the end? A well written paranormal thriller with lots of action and great characters. Just enough to wet your appetite, yet leaves you wanting more.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2013A battle ensues after the creatures bring three of their warriors out of retirement. They want to get their master, the dragon, out of Dawn. She and her friends fight for their lives in this quick moving, paranormal story. Good reading, with a well-built other world existing in this world. Recommended.
