His piano repertoire contains a wide range of styles from Baroque to Contemporary in which he shows a high level of understanding the interpretation of the authors’ wit, together with outstanding virtuosity and praiseworthy lyricism.

He regularly tours in Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, France, United Kingdom, Russia, the United States and Asia both performing in recital and as soloist with orchestra. His Italian appearances include performances in Aosta, Avellino, Bari, Brindisi, Bologna, Como, Firenze, Merano, Milano, Padova, Parma, Pescara, Prato, Roma, Sassari, Savona, Siena, Siracusa, Torino, Udine, Venezia, Verona and Voghera. Other significant engagements have included concerts at Teatro Puccini in Merano, Teatro Alfieri in Torino, Teatro Sociale in Como, Teatro delle Erbe in Milano at the invitation of “Società dei Concerti, and the Sala Giuseppe Verdi of Parma Conservatory. All appearances were met with unanimous critical acclaim. Internationally, Mr. Vairo performed in Mendrisio and Lugano (Switzerland), Mayrhofen and Innsbruck (Austria), Bad Wiessee, Bad Tölz, Lenggries, Landshut, Murnau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Rotenburg and Munich (Germany) where he performed several recitals at the prestigious Gasteig Hall. In Munich, he also performed as soloist with numerous orchestras including the Münchener Symphonikern at the world-renowned Herkulessaal der Residenz in Munich. He was also invited to participate in a concert series celebrating the music of Beethoven in Aosta.

He holds a Terminal Degree in Piano Performance from Conservatorio “G. Verdi” in Milan, Italy. In the fall of 2001 he moved to the United States where he obtained a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at Temple University in Philadelphia, under the guidance of Professor Harvey Wedeen. He received a full tuition scholarship and was awarded a Teaching Assistantship for the duration of his academic career. Since 2005 he has been selected for inclusion in the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour Roster. During those years, he also taught piano and other music classes (music theory, music History) at Community College of Philadelphia and Mountgomery County Community College.

Noteworthy performances from his recent concert activity include an all-Chopin programme for the Chopin Society in Lazienki Park (Warsaw), solo recitals in other European music centers (Italy, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and France) including Como, Munich, Biddenham, Bedford, Prague, and Carcassonne. Performances in the United States included the Academy of Music Ballroom, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, West Chester, Darlington Arts Center, Dante Hall in Atlantic City, Sussex Bank Theater, for the “Russian Stage” in Atlanta and for the Steinway Piano Group Series.

Mr. Vairo has dedicated himself to the piano literature of Robert Schumann and his efforts have led to a large-scale project, which has culminated into a series of solo and lecture recitals. Between 2006 and 2010 (to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Schumann’s death and the 200th anniversary of his birth) Mr. Vairo had been performing and lecturing on Schumann’s works. Since 2008 he was invited every year to perform a series of recitals, lecture-recitals in Vancouver, BC, Canada. In November 2010, Mr. Vairo inaugurated the newly refurbished grand piano for the Community College of Philadelphia’s concert series with an All-Schumann programme. The performance is currently being broadcast in a two-part series on channel 53 and includes an interview about the programme with Mr. Vairo interspersed with recital footage. Another performance is also being broadcast, which features Mr. Vairo as soloist with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia in a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto, K.466. Mr. Vairo traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia at the invitation of the Music Encore Arts International to perform and present master classes at the Tzar’s Village Music Festival.

Since 2012, Mr. Vairo had the opportunity to expand his concert career in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. Consequently, he has performed solo recitals in celebrated places such as the Taipei National Concert Hall, Kaohsiung Concert Hall, Hualien, Tainan and Taichung. He also presented a successful series of solo recitals, lecture-recitals, master classes and piano workshops at numerous important institutions like the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Professional Piano Educational Academy and the University of the Arts in Taipei. Re-engagements have followed as a result of a successful collaboration with every organizer, concert venue and academic institution. His presence as a jury member at several International Piano Competitions in Asia in 2013, 2014, and 2015, led to more invitations for several successful performances in many cities in mainland China including Lanzhou, Haikou, Dongguan, Guanzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing.

Mr. Vairo, encouraged by the large abount of performances and teaching opportunities in the East, moved to Hong Kong in 2015, and as a committed piano pedagogue, along with his wife Sammi, also a musician and piano teacher, founded the “Paolo Vairo European Piano Academy” (PVEPA). The mission of the center is to offer the highest level of piano instruction, following the European tradition and the methodologies absorbed during his formative years. He is also the Artistic and Programming Co-Director of the Villa Carlotta Concert Series in Lake Como, Italy, celebrating in 2016 25 years of brilliant activity.
