UK HPC Consortium for Computational Solid Mechanics
I would like to attend the consortium forming meeting for the proposed "UK HPC Consortium for Computational Solid Mechanics".  The workshop will be held at the University of Oxford on Monday 9th June 2014. I understand that places are limited and that answers to the questions below will be used to select participants.

How often do you use HPC facilities in your research? *
By HPC facility, we mean a University, Regional, National or International cluster of some kind. A GPU enabled workstation is not considered HPC in this context.
Have you used national or international HPC facilities? *
e.g. HPCx, HECToR, ARCHER etc.
If the answer to the previous question is yes, please name the facilities used
How many cores do you typically use for computational solid mechanics? *
For simplicity, we are asking about INTEL/AMD "standard" multi-core processors. Do not count GPU or Xeon Phi cores.
What computational solid mechanics software do you use? *
The answer can include a list of third party, in-house and commercial software
List up to three research themes that you believe the consortium should focus on. *
Please use three keywords or short phrases.
What is the most important scientific challenge that the UK Consortium could address? *
In past attempts to form the consortium, the review panel has questioned the scientific merit of the proposal. In this section we are looking for a scientific vision that will excite members of a review panel. These are typically members of existing HPC Consortia, i.e.Chemists, Physicists and Cosmologists. We need to identify "The Higg's Boson of Computational Solid Mechanics". What scientific challenge could we address if we were working more strategically? The need for bigger meshes, more degrees of freedom, multi-physics and faster design turnaround times are not good enough justifications for funding on their own.
I agree to my responses being used in a publicly available report *
We will present results from the survey at the meeting in Oxford. Depending on the quality of the information gathered, we may produce a summary report and make it freely available. In both cases, the responses will be presented in an anonymous manner.
