Occupy's Next Step - a Wave of Action

The Occupy Movement - never centralized to begin with - has adopted an even more decentralized strategy in an effort to avoid arrest and quashing, not always successfully.  This time, they have teamed up with more established groups, like Veterans for Peace.

It began yesterday, April 4.

From 4th of April, (chosen because it is the 46th anniversary of Martin Luther King's Assassination), to the 4th of July, Occupy activists, Indignados and other protest camp people will start a decentralized wave of action -- a movement of the movement.

The decentralized movement toward freedom is raging across the world. It cannot be stopped. The tipping point is near. Despite the lack of coverage in the mainstream media, actions are springing up on an increasing basis. A wave of transformation is rising. The zeitgeist is shifting in our direction.

At this point, given all the nonviolent direct actions that are currently being planned, it makes strategic sense for us to organize them, in a decentralized way, in a way that the mainstream media cannot ignore. A slightly more coordinated approach is all it will take.

However, arrests, some touted as "symbolic" have been made, and completely unreported upon by the mainstream media.  Portland, Oregon, seems to be an American exception, as are Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers, who cover it in The People's Voice.  See Iranian Press TV's article and video of last night's NYC action here.  Another Iranian press outlet, the FARS News Agency has this scene of protest marching:

Occupy Movement Calls for Worldwide Action against Wars, Inequality, Hypocrisy of US Gov't

and the article seems to have originated from the Voice of Russia website.

There is a central website: http://waveofaction.org/ that serves as a coordinating hub for the various protests worldwide.  They say:

The Worldwide #WaveOfAction begins April 4th and runs through July 4th. During this three-month cycle, people throughout the world will be protesting corruption, rallying around solutions and taking part in alternative systems. The new paradigm will be on full display. Studies have proven that it only takes 3.5% of the population taking nonviolent action to create meaningful and positive change. The #WaveOfAction gives all of us who want change a powerful opportunity to #EvolveSociety. Change-makers all over the world will be engaged at the same time in an unprecedented wave of transformation.

On April 4th, there will be launch celebrations at hundreds of former Occupy locations globally. We will honor Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy of nonviolent action and spend the day connecting with allies and strategizing Spring action campaigns. This crowdsourced campaign will become what you, the people, make of it, self-organizing and organically evolving, a new culture will emerge. What are you most passionate about? What are you doing to be the change? Whatever it is, passionately be it in public this Spring. Get together with like-minded friends and have fun with it. We have power in numbers. United we are unstoppable. OUR TIME HAS COME!!

Please use these hashtags ~ #WaveOfAction #GlobalSpring #ReOccupy #BeTheChange

Here is a partial list of April 4th #"WaveOfAction Facebook event listings. The Worldwide Wave is incredibly decentralized, hard to keep track of everything happening. Please send info for events we have missed to Admin@WaveOfAction.org.

And this very crowded map of events is featured on their front page.

It's early days, so it's impossible to tell what direction this new "Wave" will ultimately go.  Will it lead to change, or just more mass arrests and suppression?  One thing seems sure, the Occupy Movement is not going away.  It has a hydra-like quality, where cutting off one head spawns many more.
