Colleen will explain the what, when, who, how and why of wills, as it pertains to fundraising. By the end of the session you will understand the process, enabling you to help your donors make appropriate planned gifts. You will learn about:

  • the key elements of Will preparation
  • who should prepare the Will and why; what happens without a will
  • how to choose an Executor
  • what Probate is
  • the two types of Power of Attorney
  • benefits of a charitable bequest to the donor and the estate/ family
  • the steps and timeframes for bequest administration

Planned Giving Vehicles: the backroom nitty gritty   Wed Aug 10, 2011  9 am to 4 pm est

During this fast-paced session we'll explore the various methods of making planned gifts. By the end of the day you will understand the options available, enabling you to help your donors make appropriate decisions about their gifts. You will learn about:

  • Life insurance gifts
  • RRSPs and RRIFs
  • Charitable remainder trusts
  • Charitable gift annuities
  • Residual Interest gifts
  • Endowments and Designated gifts

The benefits of each vehicle to the donor and an overview of the procedures for each will be discussed.
