History buffs hope to uncover the 70-year-old mystery surrounding a plane crash that killed two American airmen.
On May 10, 1945 - two days after the Second World War ended - a convoy of B17 Flying Fortresses flew over Braintree. While en route, two aircraft entered a propwash, or a slipstream.
One flew fly upwards into the other and sliced itself in half after striking the wing of the plane above, killing the crew.
It is hoped a memorial plaque will be made to mark the 70th anniversary of the crash next year.
