The issue of securing America's borders has taken on new importance since 9/11. Few organizations have responded to the challenge like The Minuteman Project. The Project is not a call to arms, but a call to voices seeking a peaceful and respectable resolution to the chaotic neglect of this vital issue by members of U.S. local, state and federal governments charged with applying U.S. immigration law. It is not just a call to bring national awareness to the shambles that is U.S. immigration law enforcement but a reminder to Americans that our nation was founded as one governed by the rule of law, not by the whims of mobs of illegals who endlessly stream across our borders, overcrowding schools, hospitals -- and jails. Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders is sure to be one of this year's most controversial books.

Review

Among other shocking revelations, the book exposes the Mexican government's open complicity in this growing crisis. Thousands of Minuteman volunteers have undertaken border watch patrols in northern and southern states since the Project was founded in 2004. The Project's motto is "Americans doing the job that Congress won't." President Bush accused this peaceful group of being "vigilantes." --n/a

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Chairman of the 72-member Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, is an outspoken advocate for immigration reform and will write the book's foreword. --n/a

After announcing this book, we received 70+ review requests from media such as the New York Times. This is a hot topic. --n/a

From the Publisher

Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders is a first-hand account from the frontlines, and what it says will shock you. Jim Gilchrist teams up with Jerome Corsi, the co-author of Unfit for Command—the book that derailed John Kerry's presidential campaign—to describe in vivid detail how the nation's southern border has disintegrated into a Wild West of human trafficking, drug smuggling, and violent gangs.

But the threat posed by out-of-control illegal immigration extends beyond the border states to the whole republic, warn Gilchrist and Corsi. Readers of this disturbing and timely book will learn how:

- Mexico encourages the mass emigration of millions of impoverished peasants, and why the Mexican government will stop at nothing to keep the border open;

- The Catholic Church uses its power and influence to subvert immigration laws, and why Church leaders are speaking out in favor of amnesty;

- American taxpayers are forced to pay the staggering economic and cultural price tag of illegal immigration, and why our government wants to keep the true costs hidden from the public.

With anti-American protestors taking to the streets to demand citizenship for all illegals, and with the President of the United States himself endorsing open borders, it has never been more critical for American citizens to understand the massive social, economic and security problems caused by illegal immigration. Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders describes those problems with a refreshing combination of facts and straight talk.

Like their Revolutionary War predecessors who defended America against a hostile foreign power, today's Minutemen have risen up to answer their nation's call against another invasion. Minutemen is their story, as well as an urgent call to arms to all of their countrymen.

    The Founding Fathers, in their wisdom, felt that their new fledging country would be helpless without the freedom to speak in the arena of ideas. In Jim Gilchrist's "Minutemen", he documents that freedom of speech is only free if the local power agrees with the message. He is shouted down, called vicious and vile names, and denied parade permits for simply trying to tell America they will no longer be a nation without border control.

    He outlines at some length the motivations behind the open borders axis, from fuzzy-headed "We are all citizens of the world", the greedy business owner, the vote-seeking politician, the always politically correct educators, the Catholic church, and the labor unions. Always present of course, is the Hard Left anarchists and Marxists who will never miss a chance to cripple capitalism, and they have organized many of the parades and rallies. This grim package is breathlessly covered by the enabling Main Stream Media, where editorials appear on page one disguised as news.

    Although a conservative, Gilchrist has harsh words for the current Administration for dereliction of duty by not sealing our borders against terrorists drug mules and the off-loading by President Fox of Mexico's criminals and the lowest classes of workers.

    I rated this book 5 stars, but one of the most overlooked issues in this debate deals with the diseased Third World country the swarms are coming from. Tuberculosis, malaria and other diseases stamped out in America decades ago are now sharply on the rise. Gilchrist tended to become redundant in some parts of the book, which if trimmed back, could have left room for this critical issue.

    Regardless, it's a well done book and worth the read.

    I found this book extremely enlightening and decently written. It is my opinion that opponents and supporters of the illegal immigration must read this book with an open mind to truely understand the issues fueling this national delema and the possible consequences that can result.

    I would put zero stars if I could. The book says "with anti-American protestors taking to the streets to demand citizenship for all illegals" - but protest is one of the most American things out there! It is one of the hallmarks of the closed-mindedness of conservatives that they can't even talk to people whose views are different from theirs, without branding them traitors or anti-American. Whatever happened to informed dialogue between opposing viewpoints?

    The real historical Minutemen (as opposed to these vigilantee yahoos) fought for the very freedoms these militias, racists, and right-wing zealots continue to try to take away from us.

    That Jerome Corsi was the coauthor of Unfit For Command should say it all about this book. Hey, let's jump on whatever Conservative Republican issue bandwagon that rumbles by!

    No need to read this book, just turn on Limbaugh or Fox News - you'll hear the same arguments made just as inanely.

    It's funny how so many call them racists, when so many of them are of many races, Hispanic, Black, Asian, American Indian, all good Americans.

    Now tell me, how do you call a Hispanic American Citizen who is a Minuteman a racist? That doesn't make much sense.

    Everytime I've tried to explain to someone that people DO CARE about the security of our borders, and they don't have a good response, they just get emotional and start calling me a racist. I guess I'd better let my wife know I'm racist, she's from Costa Rica, she might be rather surprized!

    The Minutemen are just as concerned about WHITE PEOPLE who come across the border that's why they are on the Canadian border, too. But all these facts don't matter, right? They are all just racists. Uh huh. Yeah, right, sure.

    This is must reading about one of the biggest threats to our country's security. Illegal, undocumented Mexicans are entering the USA at what should be considered an alarming rate. They are putting a strain on our social services, taking advantage of our country's benefits, and in many cases are involved in violent drug trafficing. Jim Gilchrist...a true Patriot...details this problem, and tells how the Minutemen are doing all they can to stem this tide. A GREAT book!

    This book proves Minutemen are not vigilantes, but are honest patriots trying to wake America up to the huge issues we are facing with our porus borders and illegal immigration. A MUST read for anyone wanting the true story of the failure of our immigration system. America was made great by LEGAL immigration with assimilation!

    Blaming the Catholic Church for trying to help people? Really? How narrow-minded can it get?

    We are a nation of immigrants, and the answer is not giant walls and armed militant groups, it is figuring out how to make it work. The Revolutionary War Minutemen were not defending America against a hostile foreign power, they were "insurgents" against their own government.

    Maybe today's Minutemen would do best to go to Washington and make their point in Congress. I wonder how many of the Minutemen vote.
