Escape the Doubt (Shifting Book 1) Kindle Edition
Author Note: *The Shifting Series is not paranormal. This Coming of Age Romance trilogy is a love story told in the dual POV of two best friends, Josh and Riley, woven poetically with his music and her dark poetry. It’s not an easy story to tell, but love isn’t always rainbows and sunshine and often times we must travel through the dark to find the light at the end of the tunnel. This is their journey.
Is taking a chance with your heart worth the escape, or was it better to have never loved at all? Can forgiveness really set you free?
After the unexpected death of her Dad, and the haunting manner in which he died, Riley Shaw built invisible walls around her heart. Barriers she created to protect her from splintering into broken pieces that couldn’t be repaired. She was unable to move forward from her past, letting the guilt of her parent’s mistakes dictate her own choices.
Dean Warren was safe. Being with him was innocent and peaceful because she didn’t truly love him. His words held her captive in a false sense of security. His eyes were deceptive, and his promises of never pushing her beyond what she was willing to give were broken, leaving Riley in a state of regret and doubt.
Joshua Parker had the power to take what was left of Riley’s splintered pieces and ruin her completely, or make her whole again. He was her best friend, her next-door neighbor—everything she wanted and settled on never having. Loving him was as easy as breathing air. The fear of losing him forever was more real to her than the feelings she couldn’t escape.
When faced with the very thing she feared the most, and in the arms she thought were safe, Riley finds herself questioning every decision she has made over the past two years. When she finally escapes the doubt in her head, and accepts the truth in her heart, is it too late?
“I'm so close to the edge of the cliff that I know with one more breath, one more inch, I could fall.” -Riley Shaw

About the author

Author Bio:
Andrea Michelle breathes dark poetry and lyrics from her home in Louisiana. Her first passion is music and songwriting. She has found a way to breathe life into her first love by giving it to the characters in her novels, which gives her love stories a lyrical feel. She writes emotional, character driven romance novels that are both sweet and sensual. She is a misfit at heart and finds her writing to be much of the same--not necessarily fitting in one box or genre. Her goal as an author is to make you feel, to experience her novels as though you are one with her characters.
She loves to connect with her readers and encourages you to reach out to her on various social media outlets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart breaking and hopeful all at the same time!
Verified PurchaseWe all look up to our parents for so many things, how to act in public, the difference between right and wrong, how to love and how to forgive. When your parent’s argue and one can’t let go of a past mistake then it tends to cloud your judgment on not only the opposite sex but on love as well. When their actions lead to a fatal mistake it leaves an undeniable mark on our soul, our hearts and on our life. Riley has loved her best friend Josh since forever it seems but she refuses to act on her feelings because of the role her father played years ago in a tragedy that left both families without a person integral to their lives. Josh has loved Riley for just was long but has been patiently waiting for her to realize that they are perfect for each other. Hard to do when she has a steady boyfriend. Dean wants Riley and only her and will do anything to have her in his life even if it means lying to her. When Riley finally breaks from Dean Josh sees it as his chance to finally be with her. Will Riley be able to forgive herself in the part she feels she played in the accident all those years ago? Will Josh be able to break through her preconceived notions that true love does not exist and that anyone she gives her heart to is doomed to break her even more? Will Dean’s obsession with Riley continue to tear these two apart? Will they be able to see through all the lies and manipulations of others to finally be able to find their happiness together? Or by the time they figure it all out will it be too late?

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read debut!
Verified PurchaseYoung adult is not a genre I read very often but found myself being sucked in by this story straight away.
Following a devastating accident, the lives of next door neighbours and best friends, Josh and Riley will never be the same again. Whilst they each try and battle their demons and come to terms with their losses their usually close bond is put to the test. Will they find their way back to each other? Can Riley Escape the doubt and tell Josh how she feels?
This was a heartwarming story of love and friendship.
Andrea has done an amazing job for a debut novel and I cannot wait to continue Josh and Riley's story in book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Love at it's Truest!
Verified PurchaseWhen I read this novel, it was like a walk down memory lane. Oh to be 17 and in love! There is so much tension, so much awkward coming-of-age struggle. You almost forget until you pick up a novel that is written so authentically in the voice of the young Riley and Josh, just how magical first love can be. This is a beautiful story of two teenagers who grew up as neighbors. She would get dressed in her Tinker Bell dress to go play in the dirt with the neighbor boy who would declare himself her protector even through the adolescent years when hormones are raging and tempers can easily flare.
You really feel for both characters as they share the common bond of the death of a parent. A death that is the direct result of Riley's fathers poor decisions.A burden that Riley wears that prevents her from trusting her heart to Josh. Instead, she falls for Dean, who is far less than the boyfriend Riley deserves.
This story will pull at you time and time again as you root for both Riley and Josh. They really are two great people who you just want to see together. Read it. You will be glad you did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Riley Shaw has always loved her next door neighbor Joshua Parker since she was ...
Verified PurchaseRiley Shaw has always loved her next door neighbor Joshua Parker since she was a child. He is her best friend but she will not let herself pass the line with him since she is afraid of losing him.
She always had a sense of guilt since her drunken dad caused an accident which left him and Joshua’s mom dead. She blames herself since her dad had gotten drunk while arguing with her mom before he drove off. Joshua does not blame her for his mother’s death but Riley always have and apologizes to him on the anniversary of their deaths.
Joshua always loved Riley as he sits on the side while for the past two years watch her dating another guy. He thinks she is happy with him so he is does not tell her how much he loves her as the two drift off despite their close bond as they hide their feelings.
Dean Warren is her boyfriend and someone she also grew up with since kindergarten. He is her safety net that she uses to shield her from her feeling with Riley. When Dean tries to make her have sex with him saying he waited so long for her and wants her to be his first which is a lie or else he’ll break up with her. She chooses to break up with him.
As she turns to Joshua and they admit their feelings for each other, things start to turn as misunderstands pop up. Can these two find happiness together and will their love for each other make them stronger together?
We watch as they learn to trust in themselves.
