Lufthansa Flight 416 from Frankfkurt arrives to Washington Dulles on June 1, 2012. It was the inaugural commercial passenger flight of Boeing's new 747-8 Intercontinental.

Lufthansa is now flying its newest version of Boeing's 747 to Newark Liberty International Airport.

Lufthansa has put its 747-8 Intercontinental on the route between Newark and its main hub in Frankfurt. Lufthansa is the largest operator of the "Dash 8" version of the 747, the latest and biggest passenger model of Boeing's iconic jumbo jet.

Lufthansa shared a milestone moment for the jet with Boeing last summer when the German carrier took delivery of the 1,500th 747 ever produced by the U.S. jetmaker. That 747-8 was delivered to Lufthansa in June.

"The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental truly is an exceptional aircraft and we are delighted to expand our 'Dash 8' service in the U.S.," Juergen Siebenrock, Lufthansa's VP of The Americas, says in a statement. "With our 747-8 Intercontinental, we look forward to offer qualities and features that are sure to maximize the in-flight experience of our passengers," continued Siebenrock.

Lufthansa's 747-8s seat between 362 and 386 passengers, depending on the configuration. The 747-8s Lufthansa is flying on the Newark-Frankfurt route will seat 364 passengers, including eight in first class, 80 in business class and 244 in economy. Of those economy seats, 32 will be Lufthansa's new Premium Economy seats that feature more space and "enhanced" in-flight service.
