Nightclub reveller electrocuted after falling over on railway level crossing

The 21-year-old man was walking home from Thursday's nightclub in Chichester, West Sussex, when he was hit by 750 volts and died instantly

A club-goer was electrocuted after he apparently stumbled and fell over at a railway level crossing.

The unnamed 21-year-old was thought to have touched a live rail and died instantly after being hit by 750 volts.


Police said that the youth died instantly at the scene in Drayton Lane, Chichester, West Sussex.


The victim from Bognor Regis, West Sussex, was on his way home from Thursdays club in Chichester at 3.20am on Saturday when the accident happened.

British Transport Police said: “Our officers were called to the railway line at Drayton level crossing, east of Chichester, at 3.30am after reports a person had been electrocuted.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but a 21-year-old man from Bognor Regis was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family has been informed and we are not treating the man’s death as suspicious but a we have prepared a file for the coroner.”

A postmortem will be held.
