There is just so much meat to this game. You have your solo play, local and online multiplayer, steetpass for exchanging weapon gems, a vault that has a music gallery, 3D models of characters, enemies, items and locations which are called "Idols", portraits and more. Now let's get to the weapons: there are a lot. It adds a lot of lot of variety to the game. You can unlock weapons by finding them in the levels or by buying them in the Arms Altar. They are broken up into nine different categories: bow, blade, claws, orbitars, arm, palm, cannon, staff and club. Fusing weapons is also possible in the Arms Altar. You can also equip all sorts of powers along with your weapons. The combinations are staggering. Before each level you can adjust the intensity (difficulty) by betting hearts, which is the currency of the game. The higher the difficulty, the more and better rewards you will receive. The AR cards are a nice addition to game as well. You can battle and take photos of the 3D models that come out from the AR cards. You can earn hearts and idols when you scan the AR cards as well.
The graphics are very nice, the frame rate is smooth, the environments are pretty, and the voice acting is both well-done and funny/entertaining. Pit and Palutena talk with each other quite a bit during game play. It never bothered or distracted me; it just added to the overall experience. The music is fantastic and is serious yet adventurous.
I have had a little experience with the multiplayer. There are two modes: Light vs. Dark and Free-For-All. In Light vs. Dark you split up into teams and for Free-For-All, well it's a free-for-all. You can either play with friends via local or Wi-Fi or anyone in the world via Wi-Fi. You can customize your weapons and powers just like in the single-player mode. They're very competitive and very fun.
This game is just a fantastic experience for 3DS owners. I still have much to dive into this game. Whether your playing alone or playing with a friend you're bound to be filled with excitement. Thank you Project Sora and Nintendo.
1st off, the game is beautiful visually and audibly. The art style is charming, both 3D models and 2D character sprites. The voice work is quirky and great, albeit alittle cheesy at times. The soundtrack is arguably some of the best ever featured in a Nintendo game.
The graphics, in visual effects and 3D effects are currently the best on the 3DS. Its the 1st game of my 9 3DS game collection where I exclusively play in 3D. I don't even 2D 1% of the time. Character models, although vibrant in animation and charm, kind of turn me off when I see their hands. Animated facial movements are a given these days, but what I really appreciate is hand/finger movement. Block-hands are way too outdated.
Controls of the game seem to be a hot button regarding this game. Some love it, some like it, and some just flat out hate hit. In my opinion I love the controls, and don't think they're in the least bit difficult to use. While there are a ton of ways to customize the controls, its the default controls that are the best way to go that offer faster, more accurate input than can ever be done by button. The controls are pretty much what you'd expect out of a 1st-person shooter on the old-NDS. Most notably Metroid Prime Hunters. Of course people who never used their 3DS to actually play an action or FPS game, would naturally not enjoy these controls. Kid Icarus is NOT for casual gamers. It is for hardcore enthusiast, and a welcomed addition to Nintendo's long history of way-too-easy games.
The amount of content and stuff to do in the game is immense, and the trophy/treasure side-quest part of the game encourages playthroughs. Adjusting the difficulty alters levels and enemies to behave more aggressively, and also grants you access to previously locked rooms, or alternate story-sequences. The fact that playing higher difficulties costs you to risk your game's currency, brings an urgency to the game thats very welcomed in a handheld. Weapons also play a big part of the game as they radically change your playstyle, van be fused to create other weapons, and what you earn, buy, or make can be used is multiplayer. and this paragraph barely scratches the surface of in-game content as you may invest you time to weapon crafting, treasure hunting, idol collecting, or collecting some of the 400+ Kid Icarus AR cards that are to be available in the world the comming weeks/months.
Multiplayer is shallow, but brutally fun. Particularly the online multiplayer. only 2 modes, team battle and typical free for all, with practically little-to-stats. Multiplayer can be a little chaotic almost all-times. Playing nearby friends allow you to fill gaps in with bots, assuring you that you can always play this mode even without internet, or others to play with. Weapons and powers you collect in solo-mode can be used in this mode. This almost makes online completely one-sided at times.
Anyways, I used way too much space for this review. Bottom line is Kid Icarus is the most fun, beautiful, feature-rich game I have played on the 3DS. Perhaps because the game and gameplay is so fresh to me, I'm more satisfied with this title compared to other games like Mario Kart or Ocarina of Time which I've played abillion times.

This game is fantastic. It's extremely enjoyable and the level design is wonderful, both in structure and looks. The levels are broken up into 3segments:
an on-rail air shooter, a free-moving ground section, and a boss battle to end each level. They're all fun and depending on the difficulty level you choose, can get quite tough. Furthermore, the graphics are incredibly, the game really is beautiful to watch, especially if you play it in 3D using the stand.
The game is also reasonably long, it's not massive but it's longer than you think when you actually play it. It's really enjoyable to play trying to get better weapons, gambling on your own ability to complete the game is an interesting feature and works really well. It means you're always trying to improve yourself and not settling for 2.0 intensity difficulty level.
The controls are flawed, there is support for the circle pad pro but only as left slider pad to move the character with. Which is actually really difficult as then the game is quite heavy handed to play and really tires your hand out. The game can strain the wrist playing how you're intended to, using the left hand to move and the right hand to aim with the stylus. However, this for the most part works and even if you're not right handed (like me) you can get quite used to using the intended style of play with more ease than the left handed alternative. So this isn't too much of a problem but it is a consideration.
ONLINE:
Finally, the online play is excellent and you can get into it more or less immediately regardless of your own skill level. You can have fun straight away and unless you're a sore loser even losing is enjoyable (of course winning is significantly more fun). The online mode is possibly the best bit, with the team play and the free-for-all modes both being highly enjoyable. This is where the longevity of the game really shines, because even upon completion of the main game you can find yourself enjoying the brilliant online FPS action that this game really offers. Also, you'll probably continue revisiting levels on higher difficulties just to improve your weapon choice for the online mode.
VERDICT:
Excellent, a truly brilliant game for FPS fans and a must-buy if you love FPS in all forms and not just the typical CoD kind of gameplay.
