If you want to override the auto shutoff (P oFF & L oFF) hold down the yellow button first then turn the large gray knob to your desired setting. The auto shutoff is disabled until you power the unit off then back on again. If you want to override auto shutoff light only (L oFF) hold down the light button first then turn the large gray knob to your desired setting and the light will stay on until you power off and back on.

    I bought the Fluke 17B+ because I wanted a full function multimeter with the ability to take temp readings. This meter is not made for the US, it made for the Chinese market. However, it works just fine for the US market and it's a lot cheaper. The closest Fluke meter for the US I could find with the same functions on it is the Fluke 179 which cost more than double the price of this one. I don't use a multimeter that often, so I didn't want to spend the $400+ for the 179. This meter works fine for my use. It fits really well in your hand, and has a kickstand on the back to hold it upright when you're not holding it. The leads on it are not the silicon ones Fluke is known for, but at this price I'm not complaining . It didn't come with a case which would have been nice. I think any multimeter over $100 should ship with a case, but oh well. The few times I use it, it responds very quickly and seems to be accurate. It is a Fluke after all. So far I'm very happy with it, especially for the price.

    Fluke has always been the mack daddy when it comes to multimeters. If needing a multimeter around the house or car this thing is great. I like the thermocouple that comes with it; I can use it for a baseline in troubleshooting systems that are hot if heating is uneven somewhere. Other Fluke products are extremely expensive. I get using in industrial businesses needing extreme accuracy and constant recalibration, but if you simply need something for getting around daily things you can't beat this. So what, it's made for the China market and doesn't have warranty in the US. I've had this multimeter for 2 and a half years now and haven't had a problem with. It's pretty durable too. If manufactiring location and the ability to drive a 250 / 2500 series truck over a multimeter is your selling point... you're doing something with the multimeter.

I learned a long time ago, when it comes to multimeters, don't waste your time, and money, on inexpensive meters. You get exactly what you pay for, and sooner or later you will end up buying a good one anyway. This Fluke is reasonably priced, and will last you a lifetime. And it measures micro amps.
