Emergency Access in the Oakland Hills
In the 1991 Oakland-Berkeley Hills firestorm, we learned that emergency vehicles are unable to pass through our most narrow streets when cars are parked along the sides. This inability to pass through our streets delays critical, life-saving emergency response.

In an effort to address restricted emergency vehicle access in the Oakland Hills, Councilmembers Dan Kalb and Annie Campbell Washington have convened an interdepartmental working group within the City of Oakland. The group is working to identify and develop a multi-pronged and systematic set of solutions to tackle this critical issue. This issue is not just during natural disasters. It has a daily impact on emergency response personnel access to patients and residences for medical emergencies, wild land urban interface fires, vehicle accidents and structure fires.

The City is identifying our most problematic streets. We would like to contribute to the data various City Departments are now compiling with feedback directly from the Oakland North Hills community. Your responses here will help inform our process. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this endeavor.
