#FOAMed Review 18th Edition

Michael Macias

Welcome to the eighteenth edition of the #FOAMed Review! The idea of the FOAMed review is to give you a digestible selection of reliable content from the online EM/CC world that you can fit into your busy weekly schedule. Each review will include highlights from the highest yield blog, podcast, video and web sources around. Over a year's span we will be sure to include topics from all core EM content areas...even the ones that may not be the coolest. Check out our indexing section #FOAMED REVIEW which allows you to view previous weekly reviews by edition or by selecting from CORD curriculum categories.

Onto the FOAMed.

THE NEUROCRITICAL AIRWAY [PODCAST]: Excellent lecture from SMACC series on all aspects of airway management in the sick neuro patient. This is well accompanied by a previous post from EM Crit on intubating the patient with elevated ICP

PREGNANCY ULTRASOUND PART II [VIDEOCAST]: Able to tell a normal pregnancy from an abnormal one on US? Part II of the Ultrasound Podcast series will help.

HEPARIN IN STEMI [BLOG]: A nice discussion of the evidence behind the Class I AHA recommendation for noninvasive management of NSTEMI...oh wait there isn't any.

ARE FEMORAL CENTRAL LINES DIRTY?[BLOG]: HQ Med Ed reviews the literature behind our fear of the dirty femoral line... turns out they may not be as suspect as we thought.

More FOAMed.

DERMATOLOGY

DONT BE RASH [BLOG]: Excellent, succinct post from EM Docs on the essential thought process to evaluating a rash in the ED.

NEUROLOGY

THE NEURORAGE PODCAST [PODCAST]: This jam packed podcast from the RAGE fellows features discussions of several neurocritical care topics including SAH, TBI, ICP monitoring and more!

ABDOMINAL & GI DISORDERS

THE SPLEEN  [PODCAST]: FOAMCAST brings us knowledge on an organ we don't often think about, the Spleen! This includes topics on splenic lacerations, sequestration and post splenectomy sepsis.

MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS

MONOARTICULAR ARTHRITIS [PODCAST]: Oldie but goodie on our approach to the monoarticular arthritis including PE findings, lab work, meds and pearls at EM Basic.
