Drawing Pad

Want to turn your iPad into a clean, quiet easel?

Drawing Pad ($2) starts with a white page and a set of tools that you can flip from vertical to horizontal at anytime. Because the tools appear in a drawer on the side of the screen, you can pull them out or put them away, as needed. Tools include paint brushes (small and large), 60 colored pencils that look realistic on the textured paper, 70 crayon colors and four types of sprinkles.

The 140-sticker library includes cars, animals, trains and toys; all of interest to children, fully movable and resizable with a pinch or a pull.

To draw with paint, pencils or markers, drag your finger over the glass, and a single line follows. Like Brushes (the more powerful iPad drawing title for adults), this is not a multitouch drawing experience, although it is when you resize your stickers.

Other features include one-touch saving to your photo library and the ability to e-mail or post your picture in twitpic format to Twitter.

Limitations to note include no instant undo, layers or the ability to add text to the screen. Also, there are no drawing sounds or preferences, say to offer a scaled-down menu to younger children or to turn on fun stamping noises. As with Brushes, you can’t import or edit existing photos.
