I just finished two of my new challenges. I finished one for Donna Ham and one for my 8-year-old son. I would like to tell you about my piece for Donna.
Donna had asked me to make her a piece to remind her of when she visited the Sea of Galilee in Israel, she says that she was surprised that it was like a tropical paradise. I started by making my centerpiece. I took some special clay and mixed some blues, green and purples to represent the sea. Than since it was a religious experience for her, and she was right in Jesus land, I put Four shiny mirror beads in the shape of a cross to represent the nail in the right hand, the nail in the left hand, the nail in the right foot and the nail in the left foot. The fifth mirrored bead represents his dislocated shoulder that they did to him during his crucifixion. The mirrors represent us. We should look into the mirrors a lot more often and see what we are doing to each other, what we are acting like and to see ourselves the way that we truly are. The middle of the cross is a bead to represent God's eye always watching over us like he watched over Jesus that day. I know Donna is a very sentimental person so I made the rest of the necklace to represent her trip to the holey land. The brown beads are to represent the palm trees that she saw at the Sea of Galilee. The Dark Green beads are to represent the luscious green she saw there in the middle of such a dry land. The tiny dark blue and the light green beads are to represent the Sea full of life. The dark red stones are to represent the stones she saw there on the shores. I also put some of the dark blue mirrored beads to represent the sunset on the water of the Sea of Galilee. I also had made some beads to match the pendent. They look like little earths, to represent the trip across the world to go there. I really hope she enjoys this necklace! It meant a lot to me to hear the story and represent her story in my jewelry.
