Product Description
Enjoy healthy, home-cooked meals with the help of this 4-quart oval-shaped slow cooker. The unit works great for cooking up soups, casseroles, pot roasts, curries, and more. Simply add ingredients to the unit's stoneware crock, insert it in the cooker, and turn the temperature-control dial from off to low or high--or to the convenient keep-warm setting, which maintains a perfect serving temperature without overcooking. The appliance provides a tempered-glass lid--with a stay-cool black knob and finger guard--that helps keep in the heat and allows for checking on meals at a glance without disturbing the cooking process. Other thoughtful design details include a handy on/off indicator light, rubber feet, and cool-touch plastic side handles for secure transport from the kitchen to the buffet. For added convenience, the removable crock can also be used as a serving dish at the dining-room table, and it cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher. Recipes for chicken noodle soup, pork roast, vegetable stew, chili, and more come included. With its beautiful brushed stainless-steel exterior, the 250-watt slow cooker measures 10-1/5 by 13 by 8-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Lid doesnt fit well and has no steam vent; so rattles and spatters.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2010I've been using various slow cookers for 40 years, and I really do like all of the little features on this one. The handles make it easy to hold, and it heats evenly.
I chose it for several reasons.
1) It is oval. Oval pots allow longer pieces of meat for cooking.
2) Four Quarts is a good size for preparing larger dishes for groups. (I go to a lot of potlucks).
3) At the same time, I can still make smaller dishes in it without worrying
4) It is simple. It has 3 settings, keep warm, low, and high. No fancy electronics to worry about.
When my last "Crockpot" broke, I debated between several sizes. I even looked at the fancy ones that had three sizes of pots included. After comparing prices, I settled on this 4-quart cooker. I figured I could buy it PLUS a small one and still have money left over. Add that to the fact that if I bought two different sizes with the base, I could have two different things cooking at the same time, and this was a real bargain.
If you haven't used a slow cooker before, depending on what you include, you may need to stir occasionally to keep it from burning/sticking. And, meats cook faster than vegies - so save your rare roasts for the oven - slow cookers are for well-done meat that is so tender it falls off the bone. Do check a recipe book or an online recipe before you start, and you'll be a lot happier.
Edited - it is now November 2012 - didn't realize I'd had this so long. It continues to be a workhorse at our home and has made countless meals and keeps on cooking. While they have since come out with some that have clasps to hold the lid on, that is the only feature I would have changed on this hard-working appliance.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2011This is my first time purchasing a slow cooker, so I don't know if I can give a great review, other than to say that all the settings seem to work for me, I've made delicious dishes so far without any problems, and I think slow cooking is awesome! However, let me point out a few issues (but I don't necessarily know if this happens with all slow cookers):
-The outside heats up (it's metal!), so don't touch it while it's on. However, the handles are fine.
-It took a while for the inside pot to heat up, and the bottom of the pot doesn't really heat up as much as the sides, and I think the outside covering is what actually causes the inside pot to heat up (the outside gets hot first, then the inside pot starts heating up slowly)
The price was good, the slow cooker works, and I now love slow cooking. Also, slow cooking makes several meals and is very economical! Yay for slow cooking!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2010It does cook, but cooks faster than normally a slow cooker supposed to do.
After I finished cooking, I set it at "warm",
the result showed that it was still too hot at "warm".
(Food in the slow cooker was still slowly cooked at "warm". )
So we need to buy a good timer for it.
(which made the purchase not a good deal.)
BTW, I agree with other people said that,
the size is very useful for a small family, also looks nice.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2011I needed to replace a 13 year old Rival crockpot, which was well used. I read every review about crock pots on Amazon, even went to several stores to look. This crock pot is a WINNER because its not a digital, doesn't have a rubber gasket, a meat thermometer, or a clamp down lid. I was impressed when I arrived home two hours later then normal and my chili was simmering very gently and was not burnt or dried out on the high setting. The cooker cleans easily, its a great size, doesn't put out alot of heat around it, feels sturdy and I like that the knob on the lid is super tight. That way condensation isn't going to collect between the glass and the knob when in use or when being washed.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2010I purchased the West Bend 4 quart slow cooker from Amazon because the reviews on other cookers indicated problems with the thermostats. Well guess what...I don't think the Chinese put a reliable thermostat on anything! Following the instructions, I put a roast in at 9:00 a.m. for what was supposed to be 9-10 hour cooking time. Well, by three p.m. it was more than done. The potatoes were almost mush and the roast was stringy. Not wanting to have dinner at three in the afternoon I put the setting on warm. It still continued to simmer away. By 5:00 p.m. the whole contents of the cooker was almost mush! It cooks, but not as I had expected. Save your money and buy another brand, if there is one that works the way it is advertised!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2011This is the first crock pot I've ever owned and I don't know if they all do this, but when I have it on the "keep warm" setting it burns the food that is cooking inside it? and Also, this was way over priced. Unfortunately, after I had purchased this I kept seeing so many other crockpots for sale and they were at LEAST $6 cheaper than this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2011Prior to this, I only had the old style one piece crock pot, that had to be washed carefully to not get water in the electric part. This one has a removable crock that is even dishwasher safe! It is family friendly, a perfect size with enough room for some for leftovers. It even has a "keep warm" setting that doesn't cook, but just keeps food the right eatable temperature. I am thrilled with this crock pot and highly recommend this to one and all! * After having this for some time, I would like to give it 10 stars........what an awesome appliance! This is totally durable, and completely dependable, and oh so useful....
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2010I like the crock pot. I was looking for one that had a removable pot. The metal container and the lid are lightweight--they do the job, but are not as sturdy as I imagined. I reasoned that for what I paid for this, it was worth the money. I've only used it once, but it did a great job. I was able to put the pot in the fridge which makes it worth the money. It doesn't take up a lot of room on the counter either. If you are looking for something small and inexpensive, this would be a good choice.
