TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Wow, I love TpT! I've taught high school math for 15 years. TpT is a great place to find and share materials which empower students. If you like Courage To Core, please take the time to give me a positive rating, it will help me get started here at TpT! Thanks!

MY TEACHING STYLE

You're a teacher, you understand the combination of idealism and realism that's required! Here's how I see it: We all have an innate curiosity about how the world works. We are wired to experiment at the edges of our knowledge, to look for patterns and to draw conclusions. Mistakes are the welcome surprises which help us refine the experiment. In a student-centered classroom, students collaborate to ask questions, gather data, interpret results and articulate understanding. Success at the edge of knowledge demands persistence and creativity. Courage To Core provides a context for students to work together to become the agents of their success and the owners of their cognition. Plus, with base jumpers, car racing, coin flipping, sailboats and NBA players and more featured as the real-world focus of various missions, it's fun!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Administrator Quote: “Chris is a gifted and masterful teacher whose genius is in his ability to trust and encourage kids to take ownership over their learning.” Parent Quote: "Chris is a great source of motivation for my children. He gave them to a positive experience and inspired them to grasp mathematics through truly enriching intellectual involvement." Student Quote: "You boosted my confidence with math and I seriously can't thank you enough!"

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

From sea to shining sea! For 15 years I’ve taught high school mathematics at schools from the Carolina's to California. Teaching to ESL learners at a Spanish international school helped me make my materials multi-culturally accessible. Teaching English in Portugal enriched my writing. Guiding rock climbing and coaching surfing enlivened my word problems. Ultimately, teaching makes every day an intellectual adventure as rich as any of those. I created these math materials to give students as much power in the learning process as possible, so that together my students and I can share in the journey of discovery of mathematical ideas. I hope that you and your students find Courage To Core to be an intellectually enriching adventure!
