With the relative ease of self-publishing these days, there are a lot of “debut novels” cropping up all over the web. What isn’t cropping up are a lot of quality “debut novels”; instead we have to muddle through the mediocre and the lame copies until we find a diamond in the rough. Unspoken Memories is that diamond. Gabbie sent me a copy of Unspoken Memories in exchange for sexual favors an honest review after I whined about needing a good book in a private group. She had previously sent me a teaser and I was salivating and impatiently waiting for its October release date.
Well, honey, let me tell you- Gabbie S. Duran writes relatable characters with a storyline that had me blown away. I was so engrossed in this book that I fed my kids popcorn and yogurt for dinner. <Insert snarky judging of my parenting here> I just couldn’t put it down.
I needed answers and I needed to know what was going to happen next and oh, I was a mess! I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I harrumphed, I yelled, and I sighed. Gabbie’s dialogue is so natural and the pace of the book was fabulous. Plenty of drama and angst but not to that “oh good heavens, what now?” level. I can’t think of anything to gripe about. Watching things unfold between Matt and Abigail was a beautiful journey. He needed someone to care for and she needed to be cared for. I loved how Abigail handled herself in each predicament that she found herself in. Didn’t matter if it was a sneaky fiancé or runner’s wall or outrageous lust or fear, Abigail was a heroine to root for. And Matt. *swoon* He’s the perfect mix of playboy, athlete, protector, and best friend.
“Look, I don’t know what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours, but whatever it is, it brought you to me, which makes you mine now, and I always protect what’s mine, Abigail.”
Look, I’m not gonna write you a book report. Just believe me when I tell you that this chick is gonna do great things with her writing. She nailed all of the things that I need in a great book: characters that are believable and likable, smooth dialogue, enough drama and angst to keep things interesting, a little intrigue, a lot of lust, and an ending that made me do the sappy ‘sigh’. Oh, I thought of something to gripe about- I need more. I’m a glutton and need a little bit more of Abigail and Matt.

A solid four stars for this touching love story about two people who need direction finding each other in the oddest of circumstances.

Abigail Adams is a supermodel with a problem. She has just woken up from a coma and can't remember anything about who she is. She does know two things though... she doesn't trust her fiancee and she only has one memory, a phone number.

Matt Garcia is a college football player still mourning his sister's death. He is a party guy, using women and alcohol to enjoy himself. Then Abigail Adams shows up on his front porch and remembers ONLY his phone number. The problem is that he doesn't know Abigail, never met her and has no connection to her at all.

Things become weird when Abigail starts to have visions/memories that can only belong to one person... Matt's dead sister. When Abigail discovers her fiancee is cheating on her and stealing her money, she turns to the only person she feels a connection to, Matt.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++

I enjoyed this read quite a bit. The storyline was different and unique. Abigail is a strong girl and even though she doesn't get her memory back by the end of the novel, her character has grown so much. Matt is a likeable guy (except once when I wanted to castrate him!) and he and Abigail really are perfect for each other. I liked the build up to their relationship and the way both of their characters matured and grew.

There's a sort of paranormal twist (with the memories) but it's almost an afterthought. Definitely not the focus of the book so don't worry if you don't like paranormal... I wouldn't classify this book as such.

My only criticisms are that I actually thought the connection to Matt's sister and the memories should have been a bigger part in the book and there is no explaination. It almost gets thrown by the wayside IMO even though that's what brought these characters together in the first place. I thought Matt immediately letting Abigail move in with him and accepting she had his dead sister's memories a bit awkwards. The ending is a bit rushed as well but no cliffhanger. I expect the second book in the series will wrap things up nicely and I'll definitely be reading!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I genuinely enjoyed Unspoken Memories, it was really sweet with just enough angst to keep things interesting. The chemistry between the characters, the writing and the storyline itself was really good. Kudos to Gabbie S. Duran, she did a fantastic job with her debut novel.

When Abigail Adams wakes up from a coma, she has no idea who she is or what has happened to her, what she does remember is a phone number and some very vivid memories that may or may not be hers. Turns out Abigail is not only a very famous, very rich supermodel but she is also engaged to one of the jerkiest guys ever written. After hiring a private investigator to find out who the mysterious phone number belongs to, it leads her to Matt. From the moment they meet, its all kinds of wonderful and as the story goes along I couldn't help but root for her to find her way.

The chemistry between Abi and Matt is sooooo much fun. I loved all of the build up, their friendship and the interesting connection that these two have is quirky and sweet.

The supporting characters, were also pretty awesome. Matt's roommate Trey is a giant teddy bear of wonderful, he brings humor to every scene that he is in, loved him. There was also their friend David and his girlfriend, Kelly. I really liked Kelly and her friendship with Abi, it was nice that she got such an awesome female friend.

Overall, I found this book to be pretty irresistible. It was funny, sweet and angsty, while also giving an interesting reason behind the memories. I can't wait until the next book to find out more about Abigail and Matt. Don't pass up on reading this book, its completely awesome.

Ok I will be very honest here. I loved this book so much I didnt want it to end BUT you are left wanting some answers. There is a follow up due out but it may be sometime. The characters are quirky and fun and you are drawn in right from the beginning of the book. Cant wait for the follow up.

I thought I would try another book by this author, but unfortunately it was not great. The storyline has potential but the writing declines as the book progresses and some of it did not make sense. Hopefully the author will return with something better than this.
