Teaching Language Translation and Interpretation: Methods, Theories, and Trends

The Advances in Educational Technologies & Instructional Design (AETID) Book Series is a resource where researchers, students, administrators, and educators alike can find the most updated research and theories regarding technology’s integration within education and its effect on teaching as a practice.

Introduction

Translation teaching aims to facilitate students’ acquisition of communicative translational competence and train them to be capable of the flexibility, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are essential for success in the contemporary language industry (Baer & Koby 2003).

Objective of the Book

This new publication is intended to bring together the studies of scholars and teachers working in the field of translation and to widen recent enquiries to include more interdisciplinary theories and a greater variety of linguistic, cultural and educational contexts worldwide.

Target Audience

The book is expected to be utilized in the educational context of translation by scholars and teachers. It may also be of interest to graduate students who plan to become teachers or do further studies on translation teaching. It is intended to deepen their understanding of the processes, principles, models, new options and other matters related to translation teaching.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

theories of translation pedagogy and their applications;
principles, strategies, and models of translation teaching;
application of other disciplines to translation teaching;
psychological implications to translation teaching;
functions of translation teaching;
problems in current translation pedagogy;
assessment and evaluation of translation teaching;
translation teaching of specific text types;
the development of translation competence;
the design of portfolios;
development of teaching tools;
the application of corpus in translation teaching;
reports on research projects concerning translation teaching.
Please note that translation in this publication covers both the written form of translation and the oral form of interpretation. Full chapters are expected to be up to 10000 words.

Submission Procedure

Those interested please submit a preliminary proposal, roughly 500 words in length, to describe the research background, topic, methodology, and potential findings, and a bio note of 100 words to introduce research interests and main publications. We will also accept reports on sponsored research projects concerning the teaching of translation up to 1500 words. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by December 31, 2013 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by February 28, 2014. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. October 30, 2013: Proposal Submission Deadline
December 31, 2013: Notification of Proposal Acceptance
February 28, 2014: Full Chapter Submission
April 30, 2014: Review Results Returned
June 30, 2014: Final Chapter Submission
July 15, 2014: Final Deadline
