Nice family game for younger kids. Theme and gizmos on the board are great. Basic concept is hidden identity and roll and move. Seemed very hard to get a person out the door. Envision this game would end without anyone making it out in the future. I was only lucky because I saved up my 'Run for it' cards.

Need to try the variant that is posted. Seems like it would add a bit more strategy to the game.

First play May 2008.

This seems to be the game to take my wife on the next step of becoming a complete geek. Surprisingly, she liked this one a lot. There were quite a few rules, but it went pretty well for our first time.

This is a longer game that took three one hour nights to finish the first game, but it was so much fun that I'm ready to play this one again.

Bought this game to play with a large crowd, but prefer it with a smaller number of players. Very similar to other games with blind card selection.

Rules on this one are very easy, so it is easy to use on non-gamers.

Excellent game for light game players when the crowd demands that everyone needs to play in a single game. Will usually pull this out if we have a large group and I'm the only one capable of running/teaching games.

Once you get the symbology down, it is a fairly easy game. I do agree that the game is pretty shallow, but this can be resolved by adding in the expansion(s).

This reminds me of a more thematic and easier version of Code 777. After my second play of this, I confirmed that this one should be added to my collection to play with light/younger gamers.

Update Since Buying: Gave this game to my daughter for Easter so that she could play it with her friends in her game group. She really likes Code 777. It was a big hit for the family. Will see how it goes over with her friends.

Acquired Acquire in November 2007 in a trade.

Excellent game. Instant 9 after my first play with the kids. Played this again with some adults and enjoyed it even more. This should be a very good stock market trainer for the kids. Kind of long for them, so we shall see.

This game is one I enjoy quite a bit, and I see myself wanting to play this anytime someone else wants to.

Suggestion: I've played a couple games with the normal scoring cards and can highly recommend that people download and use the modified 100-75-50-25 payout sheets available on the Geek. The two games I played without them suffered from a run-away leader issue after the first merger.

Acquired Sept 2007. Picked up the black pieces for the 6th player. Upgraded board to 2nd edition to improve the scoring track.

Have two plays of this in now. It was a bit long, but probably only because I played it with people new to the game.

So far, I can say that I really enjoy it and consider it one of the better worker placement games. Many paths to victory. Money so far seems to be key, but I would like to try some different avenues.

August 2008. Yes I pre-ordered sight unseen and fell for the hype. My favorite type of game is worker placement which this one is superb. The theme is very enjoyable and works well with the game play. This game has instantly shot to the top of my favorites to play. Since I'd play again right now given the chance, the rating is correct.

November 2008. Now that I've had a few plays under my belt I can give it some critical judgment:

1) Don't enjoy playing more than 4 player. Having too many people or too many new players really slows down this game.
2) Wife won't play game with cards so it loses a lot with the limited way the family plays with it.
3) Theme is great and works well with my young family.
4) Decreased my rating from 9 to 8 since the possibilities of varied game play is very low which gives it less appeal. As ranking of all worker placement games, I think the theme helps this one, but Caylus is more strategic and interesting to me.
5) Still think Power Grid should be the top of BGG.

2009-May - Moving this one down a bit in my worker placement rankings. Still a very fun game, but the feature I dislike the most is that you have to be balanced in your scoring.

2009-June - Decreased rating again. 7.5 Not a bad game, but since my wife doesn't like it much and I like other worker placement games more, this one gets neglected. I think I'd sell/trade the game now if it wasn't the theme the kids like. I think the biggest issue I have with the game is that you have to do a little bit of everything so each game seems samey.

2010 - February - Wife despises whole world after playing this game. Maybe some day.

Math trade Feb 2008.

Love the artwork in this game. Its a real shame that its not still in print. Took a Math trade for me to get mine, but it was worth it.

So far I've only played the simple version with my kids, but I'm really excited to add on the magic and artifacts. Kids don't want to do that yet.

Will rate game once we add in all the features.

This is blind bidding at its best. Need to play this more though and compare to YS. Enjoyed YS a lot so I'm wondering if I need both.

Oct 2011 - Bumped up a half point for the magic. First time playing the full game and it is even better.

Acquired May 2007.

First play was a three player game with my boys in August 2007. Its a new game for me but it sure seems like a lot of fun. Think this will go over well with my non-gamer extended family.

Our first 2 player game with the wife didn't go over well. She agreed to try it again and it went over much better. Her initial dislike/confusion came from how much advantage Dirk (fake third player) had.

Played this game once (never again) with six players. Too much luck and impossible to do any forward planning. Seems like three player is the sweet spot for this one.

June 2009 - Traded away my copy and picked up the Big Box. This is a good family game and one I select to play when the wife isn't up to anything complicated.

Acquired July 2008. Reluctant to play because game group played at Origins and didn't like it. Tried to trade it away. Glad it didn't move.

Played first game November 2008. Excellent game. Lots to think about and the artwork is great. The depth of strategy in this one is pretty deep and I'd like to explore it more. There is a lot going on and a lot to think about. Lost miserably my first game, but that is usually the case with my first playing with all games.

Solid Wallace game. Very good technology tree progression where you are trying to optimize your turn and resources. This game has a ton of branches/dependencies of requirements where you build or buy trading vessels to gain from the other players. There is a bit of luck in what you pull/get from the New World where I could not get a specific resource on the three trade tiles I had for the game. Additionally, you don't want to take the discard/replace option too often with your cards because most likely it won't help. Look forward to playing this one again.

Tanga June 2007. Fun family game.

Took it with me on our trip to Tennessee in summer of 2007. Played it a lot (seven games). Very good game if played with four players, but with two, you can really feel the luck of that 20 sided die. I'm a bit burnt out on this game now, but will keep it around to see if I pull it out again.

Pulled it out again in March 2008 in a 2-player duel with my son. Still has a lot of luck in it, but it has just the right amount to make it a fun family game.

Start my rating out at 7 after only playing the two player game. Expect this number to go up even though it is evident there is a lot of luck.

Great combination of set collecting, push your luck, and bluffing. 3 Player seems to be the ideal # for me. 2 & 4 is good too.

Fun to tease your opponent about a sandstorm coming too. Swish the top cards around a bit and make blowing sounds. Very thematic.

Feb 2008 - Traded away.

Jan 2009 - Traded away again. (For good). Just too complex of a 'card game' to really get into it.
April 2014 - Reacquired.

Played this once as a four player game. It seemed enjoyable enough that I'm going to keep my copy. I'll come back to it again and decide on it in the future.

That being said, I'm obviously not itching to play it again RIGHT away. Seems to be a good family game, but my family needs to age a bit yet to enjoy this.

Reaquired April 2010. Now that my copy is no longer in shrink, we'll see if this gets played.

May 2010 - Played with group. Bit of AP going on, but not too bad once things started moving. Need to try this out on wife and family to see if it has staying power. Going to start rating out at about 7. Starting to enjoy this game.

Math Trade July 2007

First play January 20, 2008 - Didn't get to play a full game because oldest son held onto too many cards in his hand and was upset and quit.

Played one 2 player game with wife and think this is a lot of fun for couples. There is quite a bit of luck in this game, but it has some interesting decisions.

Played with four adults and enjoyed it much more. Definitely some fun decisions to be made in this one. We had a lot of people wiping the board trying to get their best position.

After playing this game a handful of times now, it is apparent that there is a lot of luck involved. Some of it is controllable, but not all of it. Still, it is a very engaging game and plays rather quickly. Its a definite keeper in my collection and most of my game group enjoy/ask for it.

One of my favorite 2-player games.

May 2007 Wife was a bit stressed out on this one, but she beat me soundly on it. For myself, it seams that luck of the cards has a pretty big affect on the outcome, but I think further plays will be needed before I can fairly rate this one. It was fun.

September 2007. After a few more plays, this is turning out to be one of my favorite two player games. I've bumped it up another half point from 8 to 8.5.

Seems the strategy that is most effective is to fill one temple.

June 2008. Learned that I had one rule wrong since the beginning. The card used to declare what temple you are working on (card #3) allows you to work on that temple or any temple LOWER than that card. We only allowed the temple that matched the card. Changes the strategy a bit.

Nice game. Bit of luck on who draws what. Goal seems to be to play the tiles that you pick by trying not to put them on your mat. Connecting temples hasn't really seemed like a threat.

Played three player with sister and brother-in-law. Seemed to like it more with more players. Ideal player number is supposed to be 2 player so I will need to experiment with more players again.

Geeksters reference the need of someone to block other players from connecting temples, but I haven't seen that yet. This is the reasons so many say that this is a better 2-player game.

Rating based on 5+ plays. Mostly 2-player. We've tried playing with the cards faced up and down. Many people debate the rules on the cards, but we've found that leaving them face up lets you do a lot more planning. Otherwise, luck seems to control the outcome for the game. Additionally, the game a lot more fun if you include the windmill too. Provides some added tension and scoring options.

We do not play with the "if you miss a scoring, I get the finder's fee" rule. I'd be in the dog house if we did that. This game is stressful enough for my wife.

This game doesn't get enough credit. It is packs quite a bit of fun. A little luck, a little strategy, and little "take-that".

Played this for a couple years now and think this is one of the better two player games with conflict.

This game was a big hit with the wife. I think that was helped by the fact that she won the first six games we've played. I still usually lose at this one to her.

May 2007. Relaxing and fun game for two. Wife likes it so that is a bonus. She is learning to be a bit more nasty in games and this one (when you play on both sides) helps to refine that skill.

Not sure there is as much strategy as I thought when I first played this one though. Seems like if you don't get the good cards, you are pretty much doomed. Not much you can do with bad cards.

Need to give it a few more plays first before I give it a final verdict. But, it seems like the game plays itself. You are there to flip up the cards.

Nice, simple negotiation game. Seems that wife and sister don't like negotiation games as much. In time maybe. It takes practice. Should get this out more for the kids though.

August 2009 - Learned the single die roll variant from Heath today. Excellent suggestion since it eliminates the variability of each player's die roll. This game just gained some additional ranking from me. (from 7 to 7.25). Now we will see if I can get it played within the family.

January 2010 - Play this game with my sons in a three player quite a few times. We are all beginning to really enjoy this one. Time for Chinatown and eventually Genoa.

As of this comment, this game is ranked at 2833. I just played this game this week and thought it would be a good family game. While I'm not a big Bohnanza fan myself, I'm really surprised by the ranking. Will be looking to play this with my family sometime since I think they will really like it.

2022 Update - There is quite a bit of luck in this game which turns off some that I play this with. However; I really enjoy the theme and the push your luck elements of taking a 'Risk' to draw that extra card. This game is best when played quickly (or slowly by reading the story along the journey) with the full five players.

Tanga May 2008 - Played once. Interesting hand management game. Similar to Taj Mahal but probably not as good (but more theme).

Whereas Acquire you try to be part of every deal and be gobbled up a lot, in Big Boss you try to predict and invest in the winning companies as early as possible.

Love this game when I was a kid. People laugh at me when I say that Bionic Woman was one of my most fun games from my childhood. Specially because I'm a guy. Oh well. The art on the cards was/is very cool and it seemed fun running to all the various situations. Went well with the show...

Now, as an adult, and knowing that much better games exist, this game is very , very slow. Painfully slow. I always modify the rules to make it go faster.

Kids had about two weeks of solid play and fun with this one. It was all they asked for. Now it sits and I cannot get the kids to play it again. I could take it or leave it.

It may be fun with more people, but the rules are kind of clunky and doesn't work well with non-gamers.

9/07 - Was able to play this one again, and it was much better. I think I need to let this one sit longer between playings to enjoy it more. Teaches Win-Win.

Good math game for the kids to try and make combinations with their dice to keep going. If you think about it, it is a basic form of Algebra. I need 9, and I rolled a 5, what number (X) goes with 5 to equal 9. This one is growing on me.

Bought the Big Box and recommend that approach to anyone wanting to get into Carcassonne. The Big Box has all the important expansions and provides a good way of storing the whole game.

Best combination seems to be base set, inns & cathedrals, and traders. However, my kids like the tower and the dragon/princess combo the best.

Less is more with this game. Meaning, don't over do it with the all the expansions at once. It makes for a very, very long game if you do it that way.

Less players is more too. Too much down time if you have too many players. Three or four is max.

Seriously thinking about trading/selling my Carcassonne. Doesn't get played very much anymore. Game drags with too many players. With 2 players, I'd rather play "The City"

From my childhood. Need to get a lot more marbles so that the hopper has more than "just enough" marbles.

This game is a loud, frantic hoot. You can play it as a mad dash or with less stress for younger kids in a slower turn based method.

Great game for two couples to play together. Not too much strategy, but enough to make the game interesting. Kids are starting to play this one better. Still learning that trading should be done only if it benefits both people.

I've had fun every time I play this. Therefore, I will give it an 8. This and TTR are the two games I always try to take out for new players.

This is it! This seems to be the worker placement game that I was looking for. Yes, it is a long game to play, but it is so much fun to plan your attack. I've played Pillars, Cuba, Stone Age, etc before playing this one and I can see that they are all lighter copies of this design. I'm very much looking forward to repeated plays of this one and consider it a treat whenever I can table it.

A combination of simple worker placement like Lords of Waterdeep and the press you luck element of resources like Fire and Axe. I like both of those games and also enjoyed my first play of this. Watch out because the press your luck element can be brutal in the early game.

By adding the expansions, this game is more fun/strategic and mitigates a lot of the luck involved with running into bad situations. Game still drags towards the end as your resource optimize.

Plays better with more people then with just two. But, the more you add, the longer game takes to complete. Four or Five players seems to be ideal.

Wife thought the pictures were too grotesque to suit her though. We couldn't get past that on our first attempt at the game. I've replaced the pictures with the legal theme offered in the download area.

Played with my brother-in-law. It had its moments but two player seemed too predictable. More like flipping a coin. Need more players to prevent the guessing of what the other player has.

I'm beginning to like this game more and more. Unfortunately, it seems like my gaming group is already burnt out on this game.

This game gets a bump up in its rating from me because I'm a big fan of the movie and because I've owned this game since my early childhood. The board and the box art capture the essence of the movie very well.

Surprisingly, this was a pretty fun game for its time. And, this game played very well with my kids 30+ years later while providing some educational value for them. It is a good game for teaching large numbers (over 100), reading/matching numbers on the board and on the player boards, and it requires/teaches some bluffing skills too.

My kids played this a lot when I first brought it home from the thrift. Makes for a nice kids party game. I still play this pretty regularly with my 2 1/2 year old.

For a kids game, I rate this a 7. I found it at a thrift for $4.00 which was well worth the investment.

August 2009 - Still a fun game for the family. All my kids still enjoy this one because we play it so infrequently. Lots of laughs.
