KZN braces for storms, disaster teams on level 4 alert

Disaster teams are on high alert again after the weather office issued a severe thunderstorm warning for KZN on Wednesday.

Forecasters say heavy downpours are expected under the yellow level 4 alert.

 

They are urging residents to be cautious in areas including eThekwini, Abaqulusi, Newcastle, uThukela, uMlalazi, uMhlathuze, Nongoma, and uLundi.

 

"Residents in these areas are urged to avoid crossing swollen rivers or if [you are] trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground.

 

“In rural areas, please move livestock to safer, higher ground,” says spokesperson for Cogta in KZN, Senzo Mzila.

He says disaster management teams are closely monitoring weather conditions across the province.

 

Meanwhile the South African Weather Service has added that cold and wet conditions are expected over the central and western parts of KZN today and tomorrow.

 

It is going to be very cold over the south-western high grounds which is likely to experience snowfall.
