Imagine a world where it is possible to work in Los Angeles but live in New York City for only a 45-minute commute every day. A new company called ET3 claims it's close to making this kind of world a reality with their new tube travel design.

Straight out of the depths of science fiction, and most notably seen in the popular television show "Futurama," ET3's design for an Evacuated Tube Transport, a high-speed transportation tube that utilizes magnetic levitation, would be set up like freeways to prevent crowding and traffic congestion problems. The tubes would be optimized for comfort and are frictionless and airless to avoid any and all discomfort to the passengers. The company claims that the vacuum speed means that a person can travel from New York to Los Angeles in only 45 minutes, New York to Beijing in only two hours and can go around the world in six hours, according to Digital Trends.

The tubes would be able to travel at up to 4,000 miles per hour, seat a maximum of six people as well as a baggage compartment. However, despite the high velocity that passengers will be traveling in, ET3 claims that they need not worry about the discomfort of traveling. They amount of G-force that the passenger will feel is expected to be only 1G of force at its top speed. This is similar to the force that would be felt by someone traveling in a car on the highway.

Initially, if the tubes are able to come out sometime within the next decade, they will be for cargo and not passengers. However ET3 has extensive plans to ultimately make these ETT tubes the way of the future for travel. Below is a video by Next Media that outlines the company's plan and shows the viability of these low-cost high-reward Evacuated Tube Transport Tubes.
