The purpose of this internship journey is to give students hands-on experience of the unique ability of art in empowering individuals through the expression of self as well as the collective spirit of their community and political history. Students will work closely with {m}aganda Magazine as interns, learning how to work within a literary arts organization in a variety of aspects, ranging from public relations/marketing to the production of the magazine, and will acquire specialized skills that are essential for the functioning of each component, such as graphic design for layouts, CD programs for working with media, etc. By playing a supporting role and learning the responsibilities of each component of the organization, students will participate in {m}aganda’s mission to provide the community with spaces in which they can express themselves through various mediums of art. In addition, students will learn about {m}aganda Magazine’s roots as a vehicle through which Berkeley’s Pilipino/Pilipino-American community shared their views and issues, and will also learn about its expanding role in reaching out to all growing artists, in engaging people in critical dialogue about the issues of marginalized communities, {m}aganda serves to educate, collaborate, support, express, and empower our community.

Time commitment: Weekly Meetings Mondays 6-7pm
(If you cannot make these meetings we can work something out that works with your schedule).
