West Bengal government re-introduces bus service in Jangalmahal

Following chief minister Mamata Banerjee's instructions to boost transportation services in Jangalmahal areas, the Calcutta State Transport Corporation (CSTC) on Friday decided to re-introduce five buses from the city to various places of Jangalmahal, including Jhargram, Khatra and Mukurmanipur.

KOLKATA: Following chief minister Mamata Banerjee's instructions to boost transportation services in Jangalmahal areas, the Calcutta State Transport Corporation (CSTC) on Friday decided to re-introduce five buses from the city to various places of Jangalmahal, including Jhargram, Khatra and Mukurmanipur. The decision was taken within a day of the chief minister's review meeting at Jhargram on Thursday.
The buses will start plying from October 5, the very same day the government is scheduled to start its administrative functioning from HRBC building in Mandirtala.
The five bus routes that will ply from Kolkata are Kolkata to Bundwan, Kolkata-Jhilimili, Kolkata- Mukutmanipur, Kolkata to Khatra and Kolkata to Jhargram. Buses used to ply on these routes long back and was withdrawn after maoist activities started in these places.
Also almost after a decade, night bus service is also going to be introduced from Kolkata to Belpahari. The chief minister gave permits to an operator to run a pair of buses in the area. The operator had applied for permits and received the same within 24 hours. There will be twin services, one bus will reach Belpahari and another will come to the city.
Transport department officials said that several buses are going to start plying in these areas to and from the city within a couple of months. Already, the department has received several requests from private bus operators and about 100 new permits have been issued
