UPDATED- PLEASE READ: This reading strategies bundle has been revised to include phonics-based decoding strategies, aligning more with science of reading -based teaching practices. Please read below for each character and the strategy it now represents.
- Stretchy Snake - sound out each letter, then blend
- Lips the Fish - find the first vowel, say the first sound(s), then blend the rest (onset and rime)
- Chunky Monkey - find parts you know inside the word
- Syllable Sammy - break apart words into syllables between consonants
- Flippy Dolphin - When one sound doesn't work, think of another sound you know (short/long vowels, soft/hard c/g, etc)
- Eagle Eye- confirmation strategy- after reading, check the picture
For each strategy above, there is an introduction PowerPoint presentation to teach the strategy, as well as posters, centers, certificates, mini-tools, and digital activities!
