Currywurst

Currywurst is Germany’s favourite fast food. It consists of fried sausage cut into pieces, sprinkled with curry powder and covered in ketchup.

Currywurst is sold at snack bars called Imbiss. It’s often served with fries (pommes) or bread rolls (brötchen or schrippe) and washed down with beer.

If you make your own currywurst at home, you can purchase ‘curry ketchup’ to season it.

Currywurst enthusiasts look forward to Fall 2006 when the Currywurst Museum opens its doors in Berlin.

Currywurst is the stuff of popular culture. German pop star Herbert Groenemeyer wrote a song about it. Listen to a 30 second sound bite on Amazon.de

Filmmaker Grace Lee is obsessed with currywurst. Join her as she explores the currywurst stands of Berlin in her documentary, Best of the Wurst.

Guten Appetit!
