A Florida gas station clerk survived a shooting early Monday when his smartphone stopped a bullet.

The unidentified clerk was working at a Hess gas station in Winter Garden, near Orlando, around 4:45 a.m. when a man walked in, pulled a pistol and told him to empty the safe, local WESH-TV reported.

The clerk and another worker were unable to open the safe, which prompted the crook to leave the store.

The clerk didn't realize his HTC phone had caught the bullet until after the robbery.

The round nearly struck the clerk, but he didn’t realize it until later as he spoke to police.

He pulled his HTC phone out of his pocket and found the screen shattered and a bullet lodged in it.
