George Galloway is demanding more than £6,000 each from anyone who allegedly libelled him on Twitter.

The MP for Bradford West has instructed lawyers at £500 per hour to send standardised legal threats to as many as a dozen Twitter users, including one charity worker with 75 followers, after they composed or retweeted posts alleging that he was antisemitic.

Unlike Lord McAlpine of West Green, who in 2012 asked Twitter users with fewer than 500 followers who falsely linked him to child abuse claims to make small donations to charity, Mr Galloway has demanded that each alleged libeller pays him “significant” damages as well as legal costs of £5,000 plus VAT.
