About the author

Born into a family of nine children; Amazon Best Selling Author James Paris, was soon thrown into the deep end of providing 'value for money' for his parents by growing vegetables - along with keeping chickens, geese, turkeys and everything else associated with a small farm.
He is a great enthusiast of Raised Bed gardening, and other ideas for growing organic vegetables in limited spaces including Straw Bales, and containers of all shapes and sizes!
A builder/joiner to trade, James also studied for the ministry through Bible College in England, and has been involved in "Christian things" for many years.
Hobbies include, gardening, fly fishing, playing guitar, and D.I.Y. Oh and of course,...writing!
Writing has become his main passion these days, and he especially loves to write from his own experiences, that includes anything from gardening to building to Bible studies - The 'Spotlight on the Prophets' series, and The Bible Brief, a Bible Summary / study book, being two examples of the latter books.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2014Campanion Planting is not only a special area of organic gardening but a bit of an art form, too. This is a very informative book although I wish it was more. It has the basics to get you started. if you're trying to grow your garden for high yield and pest resistance, Campanion Plant has thee advantage of blending plants that thrive together and plants that will repel pests. A good winter read while you"re planning next year's crop.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2014Pros:
- It has useful information in it
- Given my admittedly limited prior knowledge it seems to be accurate.
- It was free today.
Deltas:
- I feel it could benefit from some editing; really just basic things such as punctuation, grammar, and spelling that were distracting along the way. It could probably benefit even more so from whittling away parts that I see as simply adding bulk to the body without adding useful information.
- It would be really helpful for me to as I go to plan and diagram my garden if I had a companion table offering the information more succinctly. This is one of my biggest requests. Make it a standalone and therefore printable page.
- I would request that you provide links to other more thorough sources for the final two topics briefly covered in the book, those being raised bed gardening and composting. There are a few basics in this book, but those parts could benefit either from being a bit more fleshed out or a good paring down and provided links. Either way they left me wanting.
Overall, thank you for taking the time to write this and offer it for all to use. I try to write reviews as if I were talking about a real person who put real time and effort into this because that is, of course, what happened.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2017With Spring quickly approaching I am looking for ideas on what to plant in a small area. This book has given me a few ideas! It contained information on what plants work best with each other. (ex. Planting corn and beans together so the beans use the corn stalk for support). Quick read that I am sure I will be referring back to soon
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2014This book was a very good starting point for learning about companion planting. It didn't go into too much detail. That is refreshing as it is a beginners guide. Too much information becomes distracting and scary. Overall a good read for a beginning gardener.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2014I have been a natural gardener for decades, and learned a lot from this book. Next season I will implement many of the things I've learned. Not only is the book full of great information, but also has well organized charts for quick reference. Looking forward to adding marigolds to my garden. Thank you for the great book, I'll use it for years to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2019I love the easy explanation, visual examples and detailed information on how to star a container garden, great book over all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Read for ref
Pleased with this book it dose not go into great depth but is easy to navigate and well laid out easy to find what should be planted with what and which plants don't do well together this is really valuable. Like all things on this subject you do not get told the ratio of plants... The cover picture is perhaps a clue? So maybe you have to 'hide' your crop in the middle of the companion plants?
Anyway a good book well worth having anyone wanting to work with their garden instead of using sprays etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
Have to say it was not quite what I expected. There is some useful information in here but it is not a book for anyone who wants details. Will suit some though I am sure.
