Kaushik Basu, New World Bank Chief Economist

DEC staff and the World Bank as a whole are excited at the news that Kaushik Basu will be the new Chief Economist.

Basu was until recently the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, at the Ministry of Finance, and is currently Professor of Economics and the C. Marks Professor of International Studies at Cornell University.

Basu is a distinguished economist, combining strong academic credentials with policy experience. He has contributed significantly across a number of fields, including development, industrial organization and welfare economics.
