thanks guys

doc was hoping for faster results, but i'm ok with the long game

only drawback is he was going to let me go to every three months once i got above 100... we'll see next month, that'll be three in a row (hopefully) at UD and six months after restarting treatment

i feel good about this timeline

So you should dear heart so you should.

Any rise plus remaining UD is great and to be treated as such IMO

Lovely SUNNY start to the day in London hope it's the same for you Zack

All the best

Have just returned from an hour in the sun on Fulham Rd which is very busy on a weekday.  The buses stopping all the time disgorging patients , visitors , workers , residents very pleasant to warm the.
 body with sun

Starbucks workers know my order now.

Here,s a thing it's easier to get out to the sun on my own here than it will be at home. That is one off the reasons I plan to get to Trinity Hospice as much as possible when home. Can take the dog with me  , enjoy the Garden, use the small Cafe and look at the rooms I hope to quietly die in a long time from now.

Am looking at wether to hire a wheel chair Zack. What is holding me back is the first 400 yards from my door will be  in posable for  me to navigate alone , will wait until I am home to decide.

Get the chair if you need it, and then hurry up and walk again. You'll grow lazy in those things. Starbucks is a sore topic this morning, I bought beans, I know I did. I remember bringing them into the house. After that, things are not so clear. So I have no cup of coffee at this hour. No tobacco to mix in the morning pipe. It's a barbaric existence, let me tell you.

I am training puppy to attack the cane. She keeps it in the corner where it belongs. Growls menacingly if it looks like I think on touching it. Took her out for her first swim ever this weekend, threw her in the river, sure enough she floats like a labrador and swims like a seal. Swimming was good physical therapy for me too. More of that to come.

great dr appt today. he agreed to go to two month visits until '15. everything stays cool then we go to three months and med swap to stribild. i'm going to resist the temptation to call for todays lab results, and just wait until oct. really trying not to obsess on numbers

Does your doctor or lab have a patient portal where you can review your labs?  For me, it's invaluable to review them and research anything before my appointments.  Does he allow his nurse to give your results over the phone?  I think it'd drive me a little batty even after all these years if I had to wait that long for results.

Not long ago, I was labs done weekly.  It slowly became every 2 weeks then monthly.  Slowly to every 3 months and now I go 4 months.  My doctor left it up to me if I want to go every 6 months.  I'm not comfortable going that long plus I enjoy our visits.

best wishes

oh yeah, i can call my nurse. but i also know she'd call me if there is even a blip. this is an experiment, i'll fess up if i can't last

six month visits may be a minute coming, and dropping the prophylactics will be a milestone

all things in time

Do you get your labs done on the day you have your Doc appointment? I always get my labs done, at my docs request, 2 weeks prior to my appointment then we discuss the results. Been doing that for decades now.

realizing this is only four months in at this clinic. first month nurse called me. next month i called her promptly. last couple months i waited a little longer. doc and i sort of had a big talk when i got out hospital and laid out a course. since then we circle back to talk about the last labs real quick. long as we agree i'm on track we move on. personally i love the way he'll just rapid fire no bullshit, we cover alot of ground. i'll go into the city once a month, no more. when i go to three months it would be easier to start that sort of schedule. and need to find a dog sitter near the clinic, so near the dog park i hate getting that close and leaving her at home.

Understood. Waiting til October in the mean time seems logical to me. You are being treated and I'm sure the results will continue to show improvement. Can't blame you for wanting to spend time with that beautiful pup of yours.  :)

Congrat!

My ex got to undetectable too.

He took a drug "Holiday" for a couple of years.....totally against my advice. By the time he decided to go back on meds (I never let it go!)  his Ts were 100 and V load was very high. It took 18 months to get there, but he's undetectable.

I've been on the cocktail or whatever for a 10 years. 1000 Ts and 0 V-load.

Happy for you!!! Those little buggers are now under check!! And the cd4s will have only one way to go: up! ;D
Today January 20, 2020, I have taken 2378 pills of my ARV since first pill. This means 79 bottles of 30 pills of ARVs at an average of $3950 per bottle or $313,103 USD for my treatment. I have a compliance of 99.83% taking my meds and only .17% (or 4 pills) non-compliant. Of these four pills two I forgot completely, One I lost and one I didn't have with me while traveling! I became UD 3 months after treatment start   ***We are all dealing with this. And we will live long and productive lives!! AND, yes the Lord is my shepherd. Life is good... And thanks for the meds! ***

compulsions, addictions, patterns of behavior. all the labels work. as i recover they come rolling back in like the tides. i'm strong enough to be hungry i guess

i've done pretty well for a few years now off bipolar meds

haven't exactly been a choir boy with opiates

when i feel too energetic, i fear manic episodes. very self destructive. hyper sexual, heavy drug use, usually ends poorly

just getting that off my chest, i'm doing ok holding things at arms length

when i feel too energetic, i fear manic episodes. very self destructive. hyper sexual, heavy drug use, usually ends poorly

Next week I have a neurologist appt. Don't really know what to expect and plan to just jump in and go with the flow. Any pointers on what to expect/how to prepare? Wasn't given any instructions, so I assume I'm good to go.

I anticipate a review of the MRI I had a couple weeks ago, compared to the one I had in March. I certainly hope the lesions on my brain are gone. The second MRI was brain only, they didn't look at my spine. Those lesions were much more distinct, even to my untrained eye. It has really frustrated me that myelopathy has been pretty much ignored and untreated.

I really hope to get out of sick/recovery mode starting next year. The recent thread about going back to work off SSD has me a little worried. No decision yet on my course of action.

What exactly are you being referred to the neurologist for?

My only pointers/instructions are the same for going to any specialist: make notes. It depends on what you are seeing the specialist for. Generally your GP can write up/print out what are called "Progress Notes" if your clinic is properly electronic in their record keeping. It will show a history of present illness with attendant details/summary of doctor's relevant notes, etc. A past medical history, past surgical history, medication list, allergy list, family medical history, social history (alcohol, drug use, etc.), immunizations, vitals, physical examination notes, assessment with medical codes, and treatment plan (btw, if you wonder why I am so detailed I just happen to still have the manila folder of all the paperwork I took to my first neurologist visit. My neurologist was a personal friend of my HIV doctor and he knew that the guy was a strong stickler for paperwork)

Otherwise I also received a letter before my appointment from the neurologist office specifying clearly that I was to also bring "reports from the referring physician, pathology report, X-ray, MRI/MRA, CAT scan films"

At the end of the day after I fussed and fussed about gathering all of this information, which including traipsing into the dungeon of a hospital downtown for copies of ancient EMGs from 2011 that for some reason my podiatrist no longer had copies of, my neurologist barely looked at much in there save perhaps my most recent 2013 EMG report, the "summary/interpretation" portion of which he laughed at and then said "Oh, this man once took a class of mine!"

The rest of our session consisted entirely of a ~30-40 minute verbal interview and assessment, with the exception of some brief reflex crap with some metal instruments.

ps: Am I reading correctly below that you have been mountain climbing recently? Is your neuropathy that much improved now?

Why? I'm assuming the lesions on my brain and spine, and mostly the way I walk.

Neuro is inhouse at my clinic, and the clinic is affiliated with the hospital I was in, so they have all my records (at least going back to dx). I've had a couple assessments by members of that team, I did expect at least the touch/reflex appreciation tests. I've been doing those to myself, at this point there are only a few places I don't fully feel touch on feet and hands. Reflexes are still sensitive, a simple knee tap causes my whole body to jolt.

In hospital last March they spent quite a bit of time with me. The last time a woman walked around the clinic with me, we talked about the way I step, what my body is doing when I'm not walking correctly. She gave me exercises and stretches to do, and I've been more than diligant with that.

Mountain climbing? Nah, a day hike. No ropes, nothing technical, just a trail up a tall hill. Maybe symantics, but a whole different beast to me. I did less than 5 miles that day. Still, first I've done that much in over a year. And it felt great.

As far as pain. It has improved, significantly. Some part of me is convinced I actually feel better after pushing through it. If I exert myself, pump the muscles and really work, a few days can go by with less shooting pains. Tends to get worse after I've been still; sitting, or sleeping.

Normal motion is what I'm reaching for. I'm still working against a lot of spasticity of the muscles. Numbness, cold, or just stiff, it's hard to describe. I've been able to get my full range back with a lot of daily stretching. Most of my muscles I can relax on my own now.  My legs don't jerk around anymore when I move, but the motion isn't exactly graceful.

I can't run, not even jog. When I increase my pace, it all falls apart.

Really MsP, when these issues first started up, you gave me one piece of advice. Probably more true than anything anyone has told me.

Give it time, and I have been

Sorry, zach -- somehow I missed that you were dealing with all of that. Must be buried in this thread somewhere and all. I only recalled your neuropathy issues and our discussion of same. But still, 5 miles is nothing to sneeze at never mind the speed. I'm lucking to manage walking 1.5 miles in one take. It's a long slog, but I assume things will improve for me at some point and they will for you too.

Good luck with your appointment.

when i was in hospital, i had three mri's brain, spine, and lungs. the lesions on my brain were faint, on the frontal lobe. the lesions on spine were distinct. my right lung... well, its wrecked

*edit to add a link for my own use really, that thread is pretty much dead

I too didn't know you were dealing with so much.  What really hit  me was you say "at this point there are only a few places I don't fully feel touch on feet and hands"  Last thing I really recall was the hiking you did and the walk you had with your dog.

zachs treatment thread
« Reply #91 on: October 30, 2014, 10:51:49 pm »
thanks jeff, i changed the subject title as well, hope that doesn't wonk anything up

hey kids (the noobs, not yall that know) what jeff just did for me, merging my treatment threads, serves a few purposes.

one, makes it easier for me to backtrack the timeline for dates of hospital, various procedures. thats the self serving part.

for yall, i'm sort of a near worst case example of what not to do, and what can go horribly wrong if you do. i can live with being a bad example, at least i'm living.

it also helps to be able to follow along with what each of us is going through. so when the mods tell you to keep in your own thread, there really is a reason

lesson i hope people take from my experience

take your meds, just take them. this is good advice, shut up, calm the fuck down and take a deep breath. go slow, there is no rush to do anything. i lost it early, when really i was in better control than i thought. it took a lot of effort to regain a grip mentally and by that time i was faced with salvaging my physical health next.

couple times of single digit cd4s, couple stays in a hospital... that puts things in stark perspective. it was a wake up call to fight back.

i say near worst case. i'm alive. i came back from it. don't follow me down that hole. life is a one take shot, make it count

this forum has lost members who went off meds, and stayed off. they died yall. it is personal to many in here. so when we swoop in harping about your meds... remember it comes from a good place. nobody wants to see that happen again.

its taken me nearly five years to fully process and move past the newly diagnosed phase. i'm living with it now, and i know i will continue to.

Zach,

As they used to say in the '60s and '70s:  You've come a long way, baby!

(Wasn't that an ad for cigarettes -- Virginia Slims, or something silly like that? Miss P will tell us)

Gawd, I shudder to think back at all the threads documenting my trials and travails: meds, depression, shingles, Bell's palsy, lymphoma).  Oy…

Cheers,

Henry
