Kia ora koutou

Welcome back to the 2014 school year. This will be a year of change for many NZ schools as a growing number of you have access to ultra fast broadband and the N4L network. We are very excited about supporting schools to take up online learning opportunities in this changing educational landscape. This newsletter aims to update you on the activities of the VLN Primary School and how to participate. Already eteachers are receiving messages from students 'When can we start?' This shows our kids are really taking the initiative themselves and keen to get going again!

So how can we make this happen for them?

Online classes are scheduled to start in early March. Some such as OtBF may start earlier.
If you are a new school wanting to check us out, register your interest with us here and book in for a Taster Class with Kymm to find out how it all works.
Current or past participating schools - get your enrollment information in asap so you can secure choices for your students & we are organised and ready to roll - you know the routine. Please check your emails for previous instructions.
All Schools please read the Protocols of Participation so you understand what is required to make this all happen for our students.

We are pleased to welcome Kymm to our team. Kymm was previously ePrincipal of SILC (Southland Interactive Learning Cluster), is an experienced eteacher, and Adobe Connect expert. As well as this she is a qualified Speech teacher, holds a Fellowship of Public Speaking & Communication with Speech NZ, and also teaches Senior Maths. Kymm hails from Gore. She will be helping us out with administrative support, processing enrollments, timetabling, taster classes, and first level support to schools and eteachers. Kymm can be contacted at kymm@vln.school.nz

WeLearn is a hub for NZ online learners. Students can keep in touch with their teachers and classmates, create and join special interest groups, find information about their online classes and access help and support. It is the home of our online classes and projects. This year we aim to have all of our students & eteachers registered and interacting regularly in this space.
Schools are welcome to use this space to support their own online learning & collaborative needs with students. They don't need to be formally participating in VLN Primary School programmes or projects.

Check out the fantastic work Geoff is doing with his Over the Back Fence Project. There has been a lot of interest from schools already in joining this project. Contact Geoff to register your interest.
NZ schools are warmly invited to join these global collaborative projects organised by our friend Chun from Hong Kong. These projects are great starters for younger students and their teachers to participate in.

If you are a school with small numbers of senior students, rural or remote; then check out our Rural & Remote Project. Watch a video of the students talking about their online learning here.

To keep up to date with information & opportunities as they become available, please follow our blog, twitter or facebook streams. There is always something going on.
