National Art Encounter Competition 2015

· Six cash award totaling $2,500

· Open to artists residing in the United States of America

· One entry per artist

· Exhibition Juror and Awards Judge, Dr. Carol Damian, Florida International University Professor, Art Scholar and Past Director of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

· Open to artwork created after Jan 1. 2009

· Membership in the Naples Art Association is not required

· A bricks and mortar exhibition on view in The von Liebig Art Center in Naples, Florida from March 14 through April 18, 2015

· It is recommended that you print or copy and save these entry pages for future reference as they will not be available for viewing after the November 24, 2014 entry deadline

Entry Details and Requirements

Artists residing in the United States of America are invited to submit one artwork in any media for the National Art Encounter Competition 2015. The fine art exhibition will be on view in the Frederick O. Watson Gallery at The von Liebig Art Center from March 14 through April 18, 2015 . The von Liebig Art Center is located in Naples, Florida in the heart of the 5th Avenue South shopping, dining and entertainment district.

Awards

$2,500 in cash awards will be presented to artists during the Preview Reception on Friday, March 13, 2015. Attendance during the reception is encouraged, but is not required. Award checks will be mailed to winning artists who are unable to attend.

Dr. Carol Damian , Exhibition Juror and Awards Judge

Dr. Carol Damian is Professor of Art History in the School of Art and Art History and the Past Director and Chief Curator of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University. She is a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts and received her Master of Arts degree in Pre-Columbian Art and her Ph.D. in Latin American History from the University of Miami. A specialist in Latin American and Caribbean Art, she teaches classes in Pre-Columbian, Colonial, Spanish and Contemporary Latin American Art, Modern Art surveys and Women in Art. Her most recent work has been with Latin American Women and the Cuban exile artists, for whom she has written numerous catalogs and articles. She is the author ofThe Virgin of the Andes: Art and Ritual in Colonial Cuzco (Grassfield Press, 1995) and is the Miami correspondent for Art Nexus and Arte al Dia. Dr. Damian lectures frequently on Latin American and Caribbean art, has curated numerous exhibitions and is a consultant for US Customs/Homeland Security.

Entry Categories: Size Limitations and Presentation

There are two entry categories: 2-Dimensional Artwork and 3-Dimensional Artwork

2-dimensional artwork : maximum width 108 inches and height 108 inches (including frame if artwork is framed). Artwork must be ready for display. Framed works must be sturdy. Glass may be used only if frame is smaller than 26 x 26 inches. For safety reasons, larger frames requiring a glazing must have Plexiglas.

3-dimensional artwork : maximum dimensions 48 x 48 x 48 inches with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. Ceiling suspended artwork not to exceed a total weight of 5 lbs.

Eligibility

Artists residing within any of the fifty States in the United States of America are cordially invited to enter one image of an original artwork created after January 1, 2009 and not previously exhibited at The von Liebig Art Center. Prints produced from original works of art are not eligible. Membership in the Naples Art Association is not required. Accepted artwork must remain on display for the entire duration of the exhibition.

Entry Fee

Your non-refundable entry fee entitles you to enter one artwork. Once you have created the your online application through Juried Art Services, click the “Pay Now Button” to pay online and complete your entry process. Applications will be accepted online until November 24, 2014. The non-refundable entry fee is $40 ($25 for current Naples Art Association members) and is payable online by credit card. NAA members please note: Your member entry discount may not show on your screen during the payment process and will be applied later when your payment is processed internally by an NAA staff member.

Notification

It is your responsibility to check your Juried Art Services account and read your notification which will be posted on or around December 30, 2014. To view your notification, log into your Juried Art Services account and go to “applications.” Mouse over the application bar for the National Art Encounter Competition 2015 and right click when your cursor becomes a hand symbol and your notification letter will open.

Artist’s Statement

An artist statement of up to 1,000 characters is required with your entry. Please do not include your name in your statement. The jury process is “blind” which means the juror will not see you name not see your name when she views your entry. Please also refrain from including your website URL or any other personally identifying information in your artist’s statement.

Your artist’s statement will be mounted near your artwork during the exhibition. Statements are included to provide insight and information for gallery visitors, docents and art collectors. The artist’s statement uploaded with your entry will be used for the exhibition. If your artwork is accepted for the exhibition and you wish to update your artist’s statement, you may do so via e-mail by Thursday, January 21, 2015. The e-mail address will be provided in acceptance letters posted to the juried art services accounts of all artists whose entries are accepted for the exhibition.

Artwork Delivery

Artwork accepted for the National Art Encounter Competition 2015 may be hand delivered or shipped to Naples. Accepted artwork must remain on display for the entire duration of the exhibition and the earliest date it may be removed from The von Liebig Art Center is Sunday, April 19, 2015.

Hand Delivery:

Deliver accepted artwork on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 12 noon - 2 PM or on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 10 AM - 2 PM (delivery prior to March 1st is available by appointment). Driving directions to The von Liebig Art Center are available at NaplesArt.org

Shipping Your Accepted Artwork:

Accepted artwork may be shipped to ARTMove LCC in Naples, Florida to arrive by no later than February 25, 2015. Exhibitors are responsible for the cost of transporting their artwork to and from Naples, Florida. Shipped artwork must include a FedEx or UPS prepaid return shipping label or Airbill with shipping account number. Shipping to P.O. Boxes is not permitted. Place the prepaid shipping label or Airbill in an envelope and attach it to the outside of your shipping container. ARTMove LLC will receive and return all shipped artwork. The ARTMove LLC shipping address and contact information will be provided to all applicants whose artwork is accepted for the exhibition.

Use care when packing your artwork. Cushion frame on all sides with at least 4 inches of packing material and pack in a sturdy shipping carton. Popcorn (loose foam) is not an acceptable packing material as it will allow your artwork to shift during transit. Airfloat Systems sells excellent cushioned-shipping “Strongbox” containers that are sturdy and reusable. See www.airfloatsys.com. Please note: The Naples Art Association and ARTmove LLC are not responsible for artwork damaged during shipment. The NAA reserves the right to disqualify damaged artwork from the exhibition.

Preview Reception

On Friday, March 13, 2015 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM the NAA will host a Preview Reception and Awards Presentation at The von Liebig Art Center. The preview reception is a benefit of membership in the Naples Art Association. Each exhibiting artist is eligible to bring one non-member guest to the reception free of charge. All other non-members are welcome to attend the preview reception at $10 per person.

Gallery Hours

The National Art Encounter Competition 2015 will be on view from March 14 through April 18, 2015. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free.

Sales

Artwork exhibited in the National Art Encounter Competition 2015 may be available for purchase or listed as NFS (not for sale). The NAA processes artwork sales and will retain a 30% commission on all artwork sold during the exhibition. Proceeds from artwork sales support the NAA’s exhibition programs. Artists’ proceed checks will be mailed. Artists should receive their checks within three weeks from the close of the exhibition. Once stated, the price of artwork may not be changed. Please take into consideration the costs for framing, shipping and the sales commission before determining a price for your artwork.

Artwork Pick-up or Shipped Artwork Return

All unsold artwork will be available for pick-up from 12 noon to 2 PM on Sunday, April 19, 2015 and from 10 AM to 2 PM on Monday, April 20, 2015. Artwork should be picked-up during scheduled pick-up dates. Shipped artwork will be return shipped by ARTMove LLC in Naples the week of April 27, 2015.

Waiver

Due care will be taken with all artwork. However, the Naples Art Association and ARTMove LLC will not be held responsible for loss or damage to exhibited and/or shipped artwork. Artists may wish to acquire insurance to cover loss and/or damage.
