JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro woman on her way to jail reportedly told police her arrest was "God's way of telling her she should stop" smoking marijuana.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday police were called to the Scottish Inn, located at 316 Mead in reference to underage drinking and possible drug activity on one of the motel rooms.

When officers arrived, they found Mary Gail Parks, 19, and Hannah Lowery, 20, in a room "full of smoke."

Police also reported finding two young children asleep on the bed.

While conducting a "protective sweep" of the room, one of the officers reported finding ashes in the bathroom sink and tub as well as a plastic baggie containing marijuana residue and leaves between the toilet and the tub. Inside the toilet the officer found more marijuana leaves, the report stated.

When officers questioned Parks she initially said "there was no marijuana" in the room.

Parks then "admitted" to having smoking the pot outside and there was "no more" left, the report stated.

Finally she told police she had smoked the marijuana in the bathroom and flushed the remaining pot down the toilet, according to the police report.

Parks and Lowery were both arrested on misdemeanor child endangerment charges. Parks was also charged with tampering with physical evidence

Before taking them to the Craighead County Detention Center, police let the women call family members to get the children. The Department of Human Services was also contacted.

While on the way to CCDC, Parks reportedly told one of the officers she was "not going to smoke marijuana anymore and that this was God's way of telling her that she should stop."
