Jane Clemen0 Par0cipates as a Speaker

Jane Clemen0 is the mother of Tyler Clemen0 who as a freshman at Rutgers University became a vic0m of cyber-‐bullying. His privacy was invaded when his college roommate set up a webcam to spy on him. The roommate viewed him in an in0mate act, and invited others to view this online. Tyler discovered what his abuser had done and that he was planning a second a?empt. Viewing his roommate’s Twi?er feed, Tyler learned he had widely become a topic of ridicule in his new social environment. He ended his life several days later by jumping off the George Washington Bridge. Tyler was eighteen years old. Jane Clemen0 co-‐founded the Tyler Clemen0 Founda0on alongside husband Joe because she wants to make sure that our society learns the consequences of discrimina0on and bullying, as she learned all too personally through the loss of her son.

Trish Behnke & Tracy Fentress Mothers of Paige Moravetz & Haylee Fentress

The mothers of two Minnesota eighth-‐graders who hanged themselves during a sleepover said there were no warning signs and that they had tried to help their daughters cope with bullying the best they could. Best friends Haylee Fentress and Paige Moravetz of rural Lynd, Minn., had an apparent suicide pact and were found dead April 16, 2011 at Haylee's house. The girls, both 14, were being treated for depression, and Haylee was on medica0on, but their mothers said there were no indica0ons they were going to take their lives. Both Trish and Tracy will par0cipate as panelists during the an0-‐bullying summit.

Miami Survivor of Bullying, Trauma and Mul0ple Suicide A?empts At 15 Ms. Sanders endured bullying, abuse and suicidal idea0on stemming from harassment over race and orienta0on s0gmas. She lived as a vic0m for many years, un0l a University of Miami college advisor took no0ce and counseled her, saying, “Life is about choices. You can either choose to live as a vic0m, or you can choose to be a survivor.” It was at that moment she truly began living. In turn, she founded NVEEE and dedicated her life to mentoring children and families impacted by bullying and suicide. In May 2013, with support from staff at the YES Ins0tute, Jowharah returned to the school in Miami where her vic0miza0on took place 15 yrs. prior, to share her journey as a teachable moment. She later noted that the apology, as well as the standing ova0on she received from the faculty and staff aler her share, was something she neither thought she wanted or needed, but it turned out to be worth more Jowharah Sanders Founder | Exec. Director of NVEEE than any social jus0ce she wanted as a teen, and something worth living for.
