AGARTALA: A severe heat wave has gripped Tripura for the last three days, with Wednesday recording the highest-ever temperature for the month of April in the state.
According to a local meteorological report, the maximum temperature on Wednesday touched 39.4 degree Celsius in a few urban locations.
The normally high level of humidity was absent, making the weather hot and dry.
In the last four decades, April temperatures had never crossed 36 degree Celsius in the state.
The highest April temperature in Tripura was recorded on May 29, 1994, when the mercury soared to 39 degree Celsius.
The local forecast stated there is no chance of a respite from the unusually hot weather in the next 48 hours. There is a chance of the temperature increasing in the couple of days.
"The heat is irritating because of the humidity. At 85%, the humidity level is about 10% less than normal," met officials stated, adding that the maximum temperature was 6 degree above normal.
However, the report added that the state would experience normal rainfall in April.
