Background Information

Wendy Hart Beckman is an award-winning freelance writer, editor, college instructor and mother of three sons. She has published more than 300 freelance articles in regional and national magazines and newspapers, and has received 13 awards for her writing. Her articles have been published in Writer’s Digest, Cincinnati Magazine, M.D. News Magazine, Builder/Architect, Veterans Health System Journal and Qualified Remodeler, among others.

Beckman is also a freelance proofreader and editor. Beckman’s bachelors degrees are in geology and natural science/technical communications. She has a master’s degree in English with a concentration in Editing and Publishing as well as a graduate certificate in Professional Writing.

Beckman’s first book, a young adult nonfiction called Artists and Writers of the Harlem Renaissance (Enslow Publishers, Inc.), was published in 2002. Enslow also published National Parks in Crisis: Debating the Issues (2004); Dating, Relationships, and Sexuality: What Teens Should Know (2006); and Robert Cormier: Banned, Challenged, and Censored (2008). Her third book, Communication Tools Made Easy, was published by Kendall/Hunt in 2004. Enslow brought her first book back out in paperback and ebook as Harlem Renaissance Artists and Writers (2013). In 2014, Clerisy Press published Founders and Famous Families of Cincinnati, and Orange Frazer Press published University of Cincinnati College of Nursing: 125 Years of Transforming Health Care. Beckman is currently working on a novel about a women’s singing group and a true crime book about a murder that took place in Florida in 1997.

Additional Information

My seventh book, "Founders and Famous Families of Cincinnati," gathers and shares the stories of local folks who are as familiar to Cincinnatians as they are to people around the globe: Procter, Gamble, Taft, Longworth, Lindner, plus 150 others. Even as new faces and new names join them, many of our famous families of the past will continue to be our foundational families of the future. This book tops off the city’s familial histories by noting the innovations that have affected the rest of the world: the first professional baseball team, the first pharmacy college, the first Jewish hospital, the first municipal university, the first concrete skyscraper, the first municipal railroad, and so many more.
