The NC TraCS Institute is sponsoring a one-week course in the Responsible Conduct of Research organized and run by David Weber, MD, MPH, Director of the NC TraCS Institute Regulatory Core and Susan Pusek, MS, Director of Education Programs NC TraCS Institute. The course covers all the NIH-required topics for the first phase of responsible conduct of research training. The course covers the following:

The course will be held from 8 am – 12 pm from Monday July 6 through Friday July 10 in Room G202 of the Medical Biomolecular Research Building (MBRB).

NOTE:  This year the sessions have been organized so that the first 2 days will cover topics specific to human subjects research (Monday and Tuesday) with the rest of the week addressing the other topics considered part of Responsible Conduct of Research training (mentoring, authorship, etc.)

In order to receive credit for course completion participants must attend the following:

Human subjects training:  Attendance at both Monday and Tuesday

Responsible Conduct of Research:  Attendance at all five sessions

Individuals who are funded on an NIH-sponsored training, career development, research education or dissertation award or NSF-sponsored research project must have Responsible Conduct of Research training.  If you are unclear if this applies to you, please check with your program director or administrator.  For further information on the requirements for NIH and NSF please consult the “University Plan for Training in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)” effective Date 9 October 2012 at this link:  http://www.unc.edu/depts/legal/rcp/RCRPlan.pdf

There is no charge for the course.  Participants may choose to purchase the book Responsible Conduct of Research by Adil E. Shamoo and David B. Resnik (second edition) to be used as a reference during the course and in the future.
