- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2015I picked up the first volume of this trilogy a few days ago, as the author was kindly offering it for free, so I decided to take a chance and give him a try. Well, after reading it straight through in one sitting, I immediately came back and purchased the next two chapters. Chuck Miller is the real deal. His writing is well crafted, his characters interesting and fleshed out and he keeps the pacing steady, but not frenetic. I enjoy the way he's taken familiar literary and historical icons and weaved them into his story, sometimes twisted slightly, but still recognizable. This series is apparently a prequel of sorts to Creeping Dawn: The Rise of the Black Centipede which I am about to purchase, just as soon as I finish typing this review.
