alternatives to agc buying in portals
With the (temporary?) demise of AGC cb portal buying, I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts or experience on reselling goods bought through a portal on eBay/Craigslist. My thought is that the combination of no sales tax on certain e-commerce sites + free shipping + free returns (+ extended return policy via amex) + coupon codes would allow one to at least break even on the purchase price of a good with resale potential and then retain the points.

Specifically Booost. I'm thinking of combing through eBags and trying to find high dollar value items that can be resold relatively easily at cost. I've read some bloggers who have done the same with open box Best Buy electronics, but not sure how much success anyone else has had trying to do this.

Then why did you pluralize the word "portal" when really what you meant was the portal that you like best?
In any case, if you bothered to read this sub-forum you would have seen that a thread was already created today about literally exactly what you're asking...

Prepare to get burned unless you're getting items WELL below their resale value.

I know which blog OP is talking about. . OP, there is a bunch of awesome comments under that post. Read all of them closely and calculate your points earnings per hour. I think someone did calculate and posted something ridiculous like 200 points per hour or so. That way, a domestic one way flight would need about 1.5 weeks of full time work.
Although to credit the blogger, it is a good way to make money ( i thought ). Oh, I can tell you one guy who got burnt. It's the same guy typing this post. Bought a macbook air from bb hoping to sell it. After a week of waiting apple decided to drop the prices by $300 on the whole lineup.
Had to bring it back, they have a funny policy of not accepting returns on some of these items. Had to exchange it for something else. So, it is a lot of pain for a very little gain.

The 10% fee from ebay make sit really difficult to come out ahead.
I think for most part you will get burned trying to do this with goods from places like ebags.
