A singular book of reportage!
Featured in Horacio Fernandez, ed., The Latin American Photobook. Fina Torres took searing photographs on the streets of Santiago, Chile during the military coup that overthrew the Unidad Popular government of Salvador Allende. Just ten days after the coup, beloved poet Pablo Neruda died in a Santiago hospital. She photographed the funeral procession, which turned into a massive demonstration--a wake, of sorts, for "a whole era of leftist aspirations....
Torres was the sole photographer allowed to photograph vigil around Neruda's body. During the demonstrations the poet's house was trashed by military thugs; her photos poignantly capture the wreckage, emptiness and pain at the center of the the brutal overthrow of Neruda's close friend and compatriot Allende.
Light wear to edges; otherwise Fine.
