Description

Once a term, SSHM invites staff and students to explore the rich and unique medical history of London through a series of museum trips. These events provide an excellent opportunity for students to meet across programmes and interact with staff outside of the department.

This year’s second excursion will start at 12:40 on Wednesday 20th January (please not the change of time!). We've compiled an information sheet with detailed informaion about the day and itinerary.

We will be heading from Strand Campus to the Bethlem Museum of the Mind. Situated inside Bethlem Royal Hospital, the new museum offers an unparalleled glimpse into the treatment of mental health in the UK, as well as the history of an institute that is (in)famous worldwide.

The visit will start with a workshop led by museum staff discussing the role of ethics in mental health treatment. We will then have a self-guided tour of the museums’ extensive collection of historic objects and art (most from the patients themselves).

Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their experience afterward through either an individual or group writing exercise, which will be eligible for publication on the departmental blog: (socialsciencehealthmedicineatkings collegelondon.com).

Please arrive on time – the trip to Bethlem is a little longer than usual, so we will have to leave promptly!

We look forward to seeing you!
