Hi I'm Debbie and I've been collecting vintage Sindy since 1999 and American Tammy since October 2005. I hope in founding this site I can share with you these lovely dolls and the cute wardrobe of clothes that comes with them. The dolls and outfits featured on this site are from my own collection unless otherwise stated.
Collecting dolls and outfits is fascinating, not only in the thrill of discovering and identifying clothes and accessories sometimes in unexpected places, but also the awareness that most of these little items are well over thirty years old and still look great. However, the smaller or more delicate the item, the harder it can be to find. Stockings, jewellery, belts and handbags are often a challenge and command high prices. Sometimes when things are difficult to come by there is a good reason; for example there is fierce competition amongst collectors for Sindy dolls from the early 70s. This could be because Pedigree offered little girls the chance to swap their old Sindy for a new updated version. I imagine that the traded in dolls were destroyed meaning there are fewer of them around today. It could also be nostalgia for a childhood toy at the height of its popularity. The four outfits designed especially for Sindy by the Emmanuels, designers of Princess Diana's wedding dress, also reach high prices because of this association (see Ref 1985). Sometimes though, for no apparent reason an outfit just does not come your way no matter how hard you look for it. So, as I would like this site to be useful for identification purposes, where I have been unable to track down a particular item, I have made a reproduction version of it to give the viewer a sense of how it should look. The other sections show Tammy and Sindy enjoying their pastimes in their fashionable clothes. The Pedigree Sindy world spanning 33 years meant a wide range of scenesetters such as houses, furniture, cars, camping & caravanning, beauty and sports equipment. I've photographed the dolls enjoying these in the appropriate settings and I hope you enjoy them too.
