The man accused of murdering 19-year-old Jessica Chambers returned to Mississippi, Thursday.

Quinton Tellis was extradited from Louisiana to Mississippi. He will be housed in the DeSoto County Jail in Hernando.

Tellis has been in Louisiana facing charges stemming from the stabbing death of a woman who was found dead in August 2015. The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to using the credit card of the stabbing victim in May. He has not been charged in the woman's death, although investigators believe he is connected.

Tellis is, however, charged with capital murder in the death of Chambers, who was found dead on a Panola County backroad in December 2014.

Investigators believe he doused the 19-year-old with flammable liquid and then burned her alive. When emergency officials arrived to the scene of the crime, Chambers was burned on 98 percent of her body.

"Everybody, not only the family but everybody involved (and) I'm sure even Mr. Tellis, probably wants closure on this matter," District Attorney John Champion said. "The only way we can do that is through a trial."

But Champion told FOX13 it could be more than a year before a jury decides Tellis' guilt or innocence. The trial, he said, will likely begin sometime in 2017, possibly in the spring.

"The discovery in this case is quite voluminous, and it's going to take the defense lawyers quite a while to be able to go through everything that we've done over the course of 16 months," Champion said. "So I'm going to give them as much leeway as they need."

A grand jury indicted Tellis in Chambers' murder in February. Chambers hopes a trial can bring the closure many have been seeking since December 2014.

"My main concern was getting him here as quick as we could so that we could get him in the court," Champion said.
