New medical service dog

Jerry Eagleman is a United States Air Force Veteran and has served multiple tours in Vietnam. His time in service has left him with several disabilities that have adversely affected his life. He uses a wheel chair and he also suffers from a condition that requires constant monitoring to prevent a fatal circumstance from occurring. For a very long time, Mr. Eagleman has had a faithful companion to assist him every day. However, a few months ago, Cookie, his faithful service dog of 12+ years passed away leaving him without any means to monitor his health at night, an extremely dangerous time for Mr. Eagleman. Without Cookie to wake him up if his blood sugar drops too low, he faces the possibility of death (he faces this life-threatening circumstance every night). Fortunately, Mr. Eagleman received a new service dog in the form of a friendly gal name Daisy.

Everything seemed well until Daisy started to grow beyond expectations and keeping her became impractical due to his mobility concerns. Even though they had formed a close bond, he had no choice but to look for a new service dog. Finding one through an “official” service dog organization, Mr. Eagleman began a search to find a suitable home for Daisy. Ultimately, he found an autistic child who would benefit from Daisy’s and companionship.  After giving up Daisy, Mr. Eagleman completed the transaction to finalize the transfer of his new service animal. Sadly, that service animal never came.  Mr. Eagleman was a victim of a scam that has denied him not only of a faithful companion, but a vital and integral part of his survival.

This unfortunate turn of events was a devastating blow for Jerry but he has not let it slow him down. He has continued to serve his community at Mission College as a tutor and as a mentor at our DSPS office (Disability Support Programs and Services). As a tutor, Jerry works personally with students who have specific needs concerning their education and has been very successful in helping them succeed in their courses. In his capacity as a mentor, he is able to show his fellow students, by example, of all they may potentially achieve despite their own disabilities.

Jerry Eagleman is a cherished and vital person within our community. We are asking for assistance with getting him a new service dog to benefit his health and life, and to ensure we may continue to enjoy his services. Any amount will help and thank you for your consideration.
